5.0Patriot Tours & Provisions(669 reviews) - Fun and Educational Thursday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Segway Tours • Historical & Heritage Tours • Gear Rentals
I found this lovely company via the visitor’s website for the area and I am so happy I did! The ease of making reservations, watching the safety video and signing the waiver on line was a snap. They send reminder email with directions to the free parking that is directly across the street. The Segway itself is so much fun to ride! After feeling a bit awkward for a minute it becomes intuitive, so now worries there. Aaron was our guide and he did a fantastic job blending history, fun tidbits about local drama, and giving us time to ride the Segway for fun and wander around the graveyard. 10/10 I recommend you take this tour and patronize the shop afterward - they have fantastic stickers! If I could, I would give infinity stars to Pedego Electric bikes and Todd in particular. Wow. Where do I even start? On our last day in the DC area, my family of four wanted to squeeze in a bike ride before our evening flight home. I corresponded via email with Todd to make the arrangements. He was incredibly helpful, flexible, responsive, and went way beyond expectations to make our experience safe and fun. Amazing customer service, and these bikes are SO fun! We had a blast zipping along the Mt. Vernon trail. I highly recommend Pedego and Todd if you want to rent bikes and have a great time.See more..

We could not have chosen a better vacation than Appalachian Adventures. My husband and I were looking for a great place to take our mini moon with fun activities to do and Appalachian Adventures made it amazing. Starting with our stay at the River cabin, beautiful, cozy and private, it has everything you need to make your stay comfortable. We did the 2 hour ATV tour, our guide Joshua took us through the process, made sure we felt safe, and then made it the most fun time ever! Targeting with Tom was such an awesome experience. As first timers all of our instructors made sure we knew what we were doing, felt safe and also had an incredible super fun experience. Thank you to Patricia and the whole team at Appalachian Adventures for making this the best most memorable time. 10/10!See more..
Easy process, would go again with them for sure! I reserved the bikes via phone the day before and it was about $130 for our 4 bikes and shuttle. The shuttle ride was nice, the driver and other patrons were very friendly and chatted. We took about 2 hours to come down and it was beyond beautiful, cool and green as far as the eye can see. The ride was mostly downhill and there are a few cafes and bathrooms among the way. Returning the bikes was easy and they made a great recommendation for lunch at Demascus Diner.See more..

I honestly couldn’t have been happier with our experience with Shenandoah River outfitters. We booked the canoe sampler ahead of time and when I called with a couple of questions, they were prompt and professional. It seems like there were some issues early on during the pandemic with precautions, but we felt incredibly safe. It was a quiet time and everyone was masked and distanced. The canoes were in great shape and everyone was happy to walk us through the steps. See more..

Excellent service. Called to make a mid-week reservation for my wife and I to ferry us and our bikes to the top of Whitetop Mountain ($20 each cost). We initially made a reservation for Thursday but later changed this to Tuesday after a weather report. No issues changing days and they did not ask for a credit card up front like some other companies. Very professional service with advise being given on temps at the mountain top and where to come off the trail in Damascus to get back to our parked car. They have their own car parking area next to the store. Wonderful fall colors and scenery. One of the most enjoyable bike rides we have ever done and well worth the shuttle cost. First 11 miles is all downhill and you basically don't need to peddle, just brake and steer. Go mid-week for a less crowded ride. Everyone we met was so friendly and just out to soak up the fun. A must do and we plan to do this again when we can get back to this area. Will use these guys again.See more..

5.0Bicycle Junction(60 reviews) - Great Trail Ride! Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Gear Rentals
Family in the Boone area recommended we try the Creeper Trail. So glad we did! 10 of us ranging in ages from 20 to 57 took it on. After searching for bike rentals and reading reviews, I chose the Bike Junction because it was the first place when you come off the trail. It was a great choice! Staff was friendly and helpful. Bikes were all in good condition. They helped us all pick the style of bikes we wanted, made adjustments if necessary and loaded us up. Paul drove us to the top and unloaded us and off we went. We went on Tuesday and the trail was great, not crowded at all. We stopped at several places along the way and made it down in about 3 hours. Staff recommended a few local places and we chose Damascus Diner. Enjoyed that as well. Thank you to Bicycle Junction. A great time was had by all!See more..
5.0Alleghany Outdoors(44 reviews) - Great tubing experience ! Thursday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Taxis & Shuttles • Bike Tours • Gear Rentals • Self-Guided Tours & Rentals
The outfitter was very well organized. We brought our own bikes and rode about 7–8 miles up the beautiful trail and had a great lunch at Cliff View Golf and Fly Fish Inn/Brewhouse. Be sure to stop and explore the Swinging Bridge between milepost 4.5 - 5.0. We then rode back to the outfitter and cooled down with a 2 mile tube float. The outfitter gave great advice about how to navigate the river. The tubes were sturdy, which was needed, given that we scraped over a few rocks. We recommend taking the small paddle that was offered as it allows person to maneuver better and push off rocks and the bank.See more..

I took a back country kayaking trip(4 days, 3 nights) Feb 2023. The Burnhams know the local history, wildlife and are great camp cooks making the trip superb. The backcountry trip provided a serene setting to view sharks, rays, deer and enjoy the peace of nature. The rented camping equipment was great quality providing comfort at night. This trip was geared for experienced paddlers. I will definitely sign up for another Burnham expedition!See more..

4.5Eastern Shore Custom Carts(21 reviews) - Awesome customer service Thursday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Gear Rentals We were in Cape Charles for a long weekend, and heard that renting golf carts to get around town is "a thing" ... we called this place for info, and I got a hugely informative rep who told me all about what to see and do, how to rent a golf cart, and even let me know that the first day of our rental there would be a special event in town! When we arrived, renting was super easy, and she let us have our pick of all the carts in the lot, showed us how to charge it, lent us an extension cord, and even let us return it on a day they were closed - 'just drop the key in the box!' WOW! We had an absolute BLAST driving around, the bluetooth speakers added extra fun, and we'd rent from them in a heartbeat. Excellent location too - we could walk there from our house for pickup and after drop off. Loved our whole experience, from inquiry phone call through drop off.See more..

Our family of 5 (Mom, Dad and three twenty somethings) rented cruisers and rode the trail yesterday. We had a wonderful ride. We made a reservation and the gentleman working the shop was so nice and helpful. (I'm sorry I didn't ask his name). He got us checked in, sold us a pair of gloves for my son, and adjusted our bikes. He even took a group picture of us, The path is nice and flat. We went from the shop to the bridge and just past it we parked the bikes and took a short trail down to the river level to see the original bridge piers. That was recommended by the nice man in the shop. Then we turned around and asked some questions of the DCR Worker on the bridge named Kate. She was a wealth of knowledge. Then headed back to the shop. What a wonderful way to be active and enjoying nature together. It is not insignificant that these are THE MOST COMFORTABLE bicycles ever. You sit nice and upright. Also, the rental prices are very reasonable. Don't miss this!See more..
Owner could not have been more helpful. Booked on line for 4 hours ( tip- cheaper to do all day but have to book from 9am if do this- owner refunded me difference which was good of him. We really only needed 2 hours to explore the adjacent island nature reserve but well worth doing. Normal bikes were fine as completely flat terrain.See more..

5.0Mudkat Outfitters LLC(4 reviews) - New outfitters, great experience! Gear Rentals • Kayaking & Canoeing
Someone camping next to us at the KOA told us to try this outfitters. We called and THEY CAME TO THE KOA AND PICKED US UP! No extra charge. We learned the company is only one year old so the kayaks were very nice and the bus was new too. The driver Jeff was a very nice guy and gave us excellent instructions on where he would meet us at the end of our trip. He let us keep our backpack with our towels in the bus. The river was a little low but we did a 2 hour trip which included us stopping and eating our packed lunch. (30.00 per kayak) When we got to the pick-up spot Jeff was waiting there! There are some well advertised outfitters in the area but we thought this was very personal and a great price! (They also offer the tubing, canoe, etc.)See more..

5.0Damascus Bike Rentals(4 reviews) - Great Rental & Shuttle Service Thursday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Gear Rentals
We loved our experience at Damascus Bike Rentals. The guys there were friendly and helpful, they were very pleasant to deal with. Our first stop for bike rental and shuttle service was less than ideal. The place was just a few doors away from Damascus Bike Rentals. We walked out when that rental place had a very "take it or leave it" attitude. Their bikes were all hybrids and we were looking for something a little better and more fun to ride. When we walked into Damascus Bike Rentals they told us to pick any bike in the shop, we could rent anything we liked. The whole attitude of this shop was much better. We will happily come back and rent and shuttle from Damascus Bike Rental. Hopefully soon!See more..
5.0Veritas Charters LLC(3 reviews) - An Adventure With Captain John Thursday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Boat Tours • Gear Rentals • Private Tours
Our family sailed on Veritas with Captain John Wheately for four days in the Chesapeake Bay, and it will go down as one of our favorite vacation experiences. It was adventurous, it was relaxing, it was educational, and it was a lot of fun. Veritas is a beautiful boat, and John is as gracious and experienced a host as we could have wished for. Whatever apprehension we felt about sailing for the first time quickly disappeared as we sat down for the pre-sail briefing with the Captain, and from that point forward it was a marvelous experience.See more..

5.0Lake Pelham Adventure Park(2 reviews) - Really nice day Gear Rentals The weather was perfect for kayaking. We rented 3 kayaks and headed out on the lake. The kayak/boat launch was great and easy to use. We were able to kayak through a tunnel under the highway to a smaller portion of the lake. Then we went across the main lake region. It is a very nice lake. There were several birds around, cranes and even eagles. We saw deer on the shoreline. It is just a beautiful area. The cost was minimal at $5 per hour. There are personal lockers that you can store you keys, wallet, etc in for free. It was a bit self service in that we pulled our own kayaks off the rack and took them down to the lake. We kayaked for about an hour and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There are also canoes and paddleboats for rent. And you can launch your own boat.See more..

2.0Wet Connection(1 review) - Rental Boats in Poor Condition Gear Rentals The pontoon boat we rented was in a bad state of repair. The throwable PFD cushion was in shreds, the anchor was missing and the canopy had several bolts missing and looked like it was going to come down at any moment, especially in rough water. The boat had obviously been involved in numerous collisions, based on the number of dents around the outside. The outboard ran OK, but was greatly under-powered for that size boat. I would advise you to look for other rentals on Smith Mountain Lake. There are several.See more..
