The Shenandoah Heritage Market is a nice way to spend a couple of hours taking in all the various shops. There are 9 shops and a restaurant inside ranging from toys, kitchen, furniture, grocery items, history and the Civil War, as well as a country store. Outside they have a produce area, sell kettle corn and have an outdoor furniture builder. Also, in the walkway between the restaurant and the bathroom there is a nice collection of base ball cards and other baseball ltems from someone's personal collection on display, specializing on Willie Mays. Happened to be visiting for the weekend and after a great breakfast we saw the Farmers Market, great atmosphere, numerous tents with all kinds of stuff for sale. Produce, arts and crafts, bread, meat you name it my friend bought some great looking embroidered towels. Music from a DJ and man I sure was disappointed I'd just had breakfast because there was some BBQ cooking right there that smelled so good. I'll just have to come back! See more..
  4. 4.5 City Market (46 reviews)
    - A Feast for the Eyes and Stomach
    Thursday: Flea & Street Markets
    City Market image
What a pleasure to have lucked into finding Charlottesville City Market. Canopy after canopy of foodie finds and interesting art fill the outside lot near the Downtown Mall. Tasty, sparkling Kombuchas (fermented teas); crispy, powdered beignets; a bounty of organic fruits and vegetables; and more delectable items than I could possibly list will entice you to sample and purchase until your basket overflows. Bring baskets, bags, and coolers to carry everything from meats to cheeses, mushrooms to cherries, and Kimchi to bakery items. You can enjoy breakfast and/or lunch on the spot as you break from shopping. I'm jealous of the locals who can make weekly visits. City Market is conveniently located across from a parking garage if you're a day tripper. The vendors were friendly and knowledgeable. It was one of the highlights of our trip. See more..

  6. 4.5 Yorktown Farmers Market (38 reviews)
    - Worth It!
    Flea & Street Markets
    Yorktown Farmers Market image
Be sure to visit the farmers market in Yorktown first thing when it opens at 10am! Parking (while free for those visiting the businesses, NOT the beach) can be hectic along the Riverwalk as the day progresses. But we left with wonderful quality produce at very reasonable prices, some beautiful artwork, and snacks for the trip home. There was everything from baked goods and produce to soaps and soups, to breakfast burritos and several types of art. Bring a cooler with ice! See more..

  9. 4.5 Governor's Antiques & Architectural Materials Ltd. (21 reviews)
    - Vast selection and range of prices
Spent 2-3 hours Art Galleries • Antique Shops • Flea & Street Markets
Governor's Antiques & Architectural Materials Ltd. image
You want to allow some time for your visit as the selection is so large. Even if you're not interested in buying, it is worth visiting just to see all the items -- particularly the outdoor items -- that they have from years gone by. I was looking for iron gates and fencing. All of the staff were very helpful. They provided valuable input and were willing to help me find the less expensive items. Mary in particular went out of her way to retrieve and price items I'd seen (even when I told her the wrong place to look for them). She also carried my purchases and loaded my car. In general, I would describe the prices of the ron gates and fencing as reasonable but not cheap. The prices are lower than at stores in the DC area. See more..

  11. 4.0 Dean and Don's Farmer's Market (18 reviews)
    - Great fruits and vegetables
Thursday: 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM Flea & Street Markets
We have been buying fresh fruit and vegetables from here for years. Not sure where they get their fresh corn from, but it is always good from early spring to late fall. They have local stuff when in season, and make sure to note it as local. Most of it comes from small farms out of the area, but is much better than the stuff are grocery stores. See more..

Looking forward to visiting since we saw weeks ago while we traveled on route 522. Made the mistake of visiting on a Saturday. Lots of missing vendors. Lots of vendors packing up and leaving early. Lots of absolute junk. When we asked some of the vendors about the missing and leaving vendors we were told Sunday is the day to visit. Sure enough, we passed on a Sunday and the place was packed with vendors. Unfortunately, we didn't have the time to visit. See more..
