Hit Virginia Beach’s three-mile-long oceanfront promenade to people-watch, shop, and eat in a relaxed ambience. The boardwalk features a separate bike path—perfect for cycling and rollerblading. There's also a bronze statue of King Neptune which you can spot from miles away. When hungry, head over to the restaurants at the neighboring Pacific Avenue. Virginia Beach is also worthy of visiting during winter when Christmas lights turn the boardwalk into a stunning spot. To make the most of your stay, you might want to book one of the many waterfront hotels in the area. – Tripadvisor See more..

Alexandria’s riverfront is lined with lush public parks in its entirety (about 2 miles). The blocks at the end of King offer a number of restaurants on the water. In the last few years, the city has closed the blocks towards the water to traffic making it a lot easier to walk around and take in the public art and musicians by the water in the evenings. The views are tremendous with DC to the North and National Harbor to the South. If you like boats, I recommend walking along the marinas and seeing the yachts. In addition to the Water Taxi, you can also charter boat tours and cruises on the Potomac River that can take you by the National Mall or down to Mount Vernon. The kayaks also offer a fresh perspective for seeing the city. See more..

I really enjoyed my experience on the pier. I purchased a drink from the bar and walked the pier to see what everyone was catching. Afterwards I went to the top deck and listened to the band play, then ordered the fried shrimp appetizer. I will say the food took a long time to be delivered but it was amazing when it arrived. The breading on the shrimp was fantastic and the shrimp itself seemed fresh. The food, views, and mood was all very laid back and relaxing. I wouldnt go here if I was in a rush to eat, but if your just looking for a place to chill and hang out it's perfect. See more..

We just had one day left on our long weekend trip and took a chance going to Colonial Beach Va. so glad we did!! If you want to get away from the excessive crowds and congestion of the DC area, this place is wonderful, peaceful and scenic. Just what we were looking for and needed for our last day in Va. It’s remote, non commercial, nice local restaurants and bars, even a couple of tiki hut bars!! Nice bay beaches and one broad walk shop with all the beach essentials needed. People were nice and laid back too!! We will definitely be back and would recommend checking it out. See more..

Beautiful area to take in the scenery and walk around the area in the evening. While we were there we found out there is free fishing at the pier, a place to picnic and a play was going on that evening. The chairs are fun to take pictures in. See more..

If you want a quiet place to contemplate nature and explore the wonderful world of marsh flora and fauna, this is a must see. The boardwalk is well maintained and rises to an observation deck (wheelchair accessible) giving you a 360 degree view of the marshland and river / bay beyond. I went back several times, at several times of the day, to see how things changed. The sunset views are amazing, and there are crabs, waterfowl, fishes, turtles, and humans at play all day.
