    - Quaint place for lunch
    Spent < 1 hour Farms
    Moving Meadows Farm image
We were desperate to find any restaurants with gluten free options. Found one only to arrive to find it closed on a Saturday for lunch!! Right next door was this quaint Mom/Pop shop! We are all here from out of town and so our group of 16 came thru like a hungry hurricane! Wally, the owner, was so kind, patient and generous. My daughter has Celiac so needs gluten free options. Mr. Wally offered her an off menu item called Keto Victoria- fluffy eggs, sautéed onions, sausage, spinach with mustard. Delicious and filling! Since it was chilly, she asked about the hot chocolate. Mr. Wally brought out the large bag of organic hot chocolate mix so we could look at the ingredients! The rest of group got various items and it was the perfect, light lunch we needed! Highly recommend! See more..

  20. 4.5 Polyface Farms (35 reviews)
    - Awesome educational experience
    Farms
    Polyface Farms image
We visited Polyface on May 16th, 2015. We had never done anything like this. While we were starting our own small farm, we wanted to get some outside ideas from other, more experienced farmers. Boy were we impressed. Joel Salatin was our "lunatic" tour guide. He is an established author, extremely knowledgable when it comes to farming and business, and a great speaker. The tour takes about 2 hours and you make several stops along the way. I wish I had videoed his talks at each stop. He has a wealth of information to give. I would definitely recommend this to anyone, whether you have an interest in farming or not. If you go, definitely wear shoes with a good sole, and wear sunscreen. If you have allergies, be sure to take your allergy medicine. A lady on my wagon was miserable. Finally, don't forget a cooler to take some of their meats home from the farm store! See more..
  21. 4.5 Fruit Hill Orchard (34 reviews)
    - Very nice outing with family
    Thursday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Farms
    Fruit Hill Orchard image
My family and I traveled to this orchard after leaving an orchard in Charlottesville that charges outrageous entry fees per person! This was a nice spot that wasn’t too crowded thankfully. We picked sunflowers and also bought apples and pumpkins. They have really good cider. It’s a bit of a drive but worth it to see the beautiful area. See more..
  22. 4.5 Mackintosh Fruit Farm (33 reviews)
    - Beautiful, pet-friendly and worth going back again
    Farms
    Mackintosh Fruit Farm image
Our first time to visit and we said we’d do it again. Beautiful farm and most importantly pet-friendly. The humans and their furries had fun at the farm. Their apple cider donuts are one the best we’ve had in the area. They have a variety of apples, peaches, vegetables and even a pumpkin patch. The area around the farm seems historic and worth exploring but we didn’t have time hence we plan to visit again next apple picking season. See more..

  24. 3.5 Chesterfield Berry Farm (31 reviews)
    - Nice family visit
    Thursday: Farms
    Chesterfield Berry Farm image
My husband, one year old daughter, my parents and I paid a recent visit to here. We went during grandparents weekend, and our daughter was free, so only my husband and I had to pay the entry fee. I was really excited to have my daughter experience the pumpkin patch for the first time. She loved it! She enjoyed the hayride, picking out her own pumpkin, and seeing the animals. I do wish there was a bit more to do for younger children/toddlers. When we arrived in the patch via hayride, there were lots of pumpkins to choose from, various sizes and colors. It didn’t seem picked over and we had no trouble finding some beautiful ones to take home. We enjoyed our visit, but may try Ashland Berry Farm or somewhere else next year. As I understand it, Ashland will let you pay $20 for as many pumpkins as you can carry. It’s a bit disappointing to pay an entrance fee then have to pay for each pumpkin you get also. It’s a nice little outing with family or friends though. See more..
  25. 4.5 Stribling Orchard (31 reviews)
    - An Authentic Apple Picking Experience
    Thursday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Farms
    Stribling Orchard image
While driving in northern Virginia, we stumbled upon a delightful family owned apple orchard that was wonderful. The parking was easy and there were plenty of already picked apples to purchase or you could pick your own. The buildings on site dated back to the 1790s and 1800s and the staff was friendly and helpful. The day we were there (end of Sept. on a Saturday) there was a live band playing oldies and burgers/hot dogs being grilled fresh to order. We bought fresh pumpkins as well as apples. The apples were crisp and delicious. We plan on visiting Stribling Orchard again next year. We definitly recommend this orchard. See more..

    - A veg with a view
    Farms
    Hollin Farms image
We have been out to Hollin Farms many times now and have had such fun experiences picking our own veggies. We normally go around pumpkin picking season and have picked pumpkins, okra, potatoes and all kinds of other stuff we got to dig up or pull off the vine. The views from the hill are just spectacular and the folks are also very kind. We tend to miss apple picking but there has always been a few large bins of apples at the end of the season. Maybe if you are out and about for the wineries, give this place a visit to pick that perfect veg to compliment your drink of choice. See more..

  30. 3.0 Ashland Berry Farm (27 reviews)
    - One of the best experiences of the year!
    Thursday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Farms
    Ashland Berry Farm image
I went to Ashland Berry Farm's Haunted Event last year, and it sent chills down my spine when I saw the people in the horrifying costumes, and the gruesome looking buildings. What really had me spooked was the Boogar Woods because even though it wasn't entirely scary you were dropped off in the middle of the woods in pitch black darkness, and you don't know what to expect. Something could just come jumping out at you any second. The only thing that I was impatient with was the lines that were pretty long, but other than that I thought it was one of the best experiences of my life. I'm definitely going to the Ashland Berry Farm this year for their hayride and scary woods haunting. Oh, and also afterwards when we would head back to the location as to where we started there would be chainsaw murders that would chase you for the majority of the hayride. It was a lot of fun! 31. 4.5 Liberty Mills Farm (26 reviews)
    - Beautiful
    Spent 1-2 hours Farms
    Liberty Mills Farm image
We came to Liberty Mills for their sunflower festival and had a blast! The prices were reasonable and came with one flower. They had packages for more flowers for more money if you were interested. Even though we went on the last day of the festival there were still plenty of beautiful flowers to choose from and in a variety of different blooms. They had a winery tent, some vendors selling cool wares, awesome music, and (my sons favorite) homemade ice cream. I can’t wait to go back next year! See more..

    Burnside Farms image
Great place to see and pick tulips! We've seen tulips in the Netherlands and it's different, but not in a bad way. Tulips are mostly mixed in the fields here, which has its own charm. Plenty of tulip fields, but not so vast that they can't all be walked to, and getting to pick them was fun. Even with the picking, they didn't look thinned out at all. So many. We're looking forward to planting our bulbs. We thought the entry fee was worth what we got - the entry and the tulips. Definitely recommend if in the DC area! See more..

    Hartland Family Orchard image
We return every year to Hartland for peaches, berries of all kinds and apples. The workers are helpful and friendly and actually take time to answer any questions or explain something. This past weekend as we were picking delicious peaches we saw a kid about 10 years old using a stick to hit the branches of the trees, knocking the peaches off. What was really sad is that both parents were there and didn’t stop him. I called him on it and told the parents and they acted oblivious. Didn’t surprise me when I saw them both eating peaches when there are signs clearly saying not to. This kind of behavior hurts everyone. People, please watch your kids. See more..

The plantation house, built in Federal style, is a two story house, and has been preserved in its original style, despite multiple restorations, the most recent one on 1993. The collection contains a number of historical objects, furnishings, decorative items and documents related to American history as well as family heirlooms. See more..

    - Best Day Ever! Goat cuddling!!
    Spent 1-2 hours Farms
    Caromont Farm image
Heard about this farm's unique need for goat cuddlers on the news. Goats are my favorite thing ever! In the Caribbean they wandered into my wedding pictures. So we couldn't miss the chance during birthing season to drive 3 1/2 hours for the opportunity to play and snuggle with baby goats. The cheese is excellent too. We tasted and purchased the Esmontonian and a Farmstead Chèvre. I see the latter being spread on a rustic and crunch French baguette with a drizzle of honey. Yum! See more..
