4.5Virginia Beach(3.094 reviews) - Very clean & well maintaned Beaches
My wife & I stayed overnight in a hotel overlooking the beach so we were able to observe it late in the day & early in the morning. We walked on he beach late in the day & observed that the sand was very clean & there were trash bins at numerous spots. There are several public access points, so there were quite a few people on the beach late in the day. The next morning we watched tractors & other heavy equipment clean the beach & put it in pristine condition for the day. If you love the ocean, come here.See more..
Great place to go without the crowds. We visited this beach because of the reviews and because it was recommended by locals. It was clean, not crowded and we saw lifeguards cruising up and down on ATVs all day keeping watch. We brought your own beach umbrella, chairs, snacks, etc. Parking can be a little tricky so I would recommend coming early in the morning or wait until the afternoon (after 2 pm or so). We went in the afternoon and found some free parking. After beach time, we utilized the outdoor showers to hose off our chairs, feet, etc. before driving back to our short term rental place. It was a great time.See more..
Great place to spend the day close to Ocean City. You have the option to pay $100 for a special pass and drive your 4WD on the sand to the center of the island, you need to have shovel and other stuff required. Wildlife all over, excellent for kids. Clean and niceSee more..
The public beach is much nicer and cleaner than our private beach which was also in Cape Charles. My family enjoyed the “LOVE” sign and we all had to get our pictures taken with it. The Italian Ice cart had a super friendly guy working it who was very accommodating, giving our large group as many free samples as we wanted! As an added bonus, there were two ladies sitting on one of the benches on the pier playing great dance music as you walked by!See more..
Yorktown Beach is very relaxing. The water is not rough. Has decent clarity but not far out in middle of summer. The warmer the water there is a lot of jellyfish to watch out for especially in Late July and August. Water is calm and peaceful. Some shells to watch out for by the rocks that are sharp. Parking is very limited and bathrooms are not close by only by restaurants. You will most likely have to park far away in the summer. Not recommend it with a big family or small children. If you’re allergic to ragweed don’t go in the fall because it is in the Sand dunes. The bridge and the pier are very beautiful and I always meet very nice and friendly people here. Once the sun goes down earlier after the time changes back it does get cold fast I need to improve the parking situation and put out Porta potty‘s. They should have hamburger or hotdog vendors in the beach access areas that are farther away from the restaurants and bathrooms.See more..
We were looking to spend the day at the beach but wanted to go somewhere to relax without all the hustle. This beach was perfect!! We arrived at noon on a Saturday and easily found a place to park. Found a spot close to the water and enjoyed an afternoon at the beach. We packed a cooler and didn’t venture much much I did see food trucks and concession stands. The beach was patrolled often which was nice to see. It was mostly families and couples not too much of a younger crowd. The water wasn’t very rough which made for a really nice day.See more..
4.5Chic's Beach(224 reviews) - Laid back & lovely Beaches
A comfortable, local favorite, away from the touristy vibe. We visited in September and it was quite empty on weekdays. Not a very deep beach, but the dunes are beautiful. I felt very safe walking alone after dark. My old dog had a grand time. There weren't a ton of dogs, just enough to keep him entertained. It's cool to watch the container ships pass through the Bay Bridge/Tunnel.See more..
4.5Grommet Island Park(162 reviews) - Fun park in the shade at the beach Beaches • Playgrounds
Fun place to hang out near 2nd street. The park is very well shaded and right on the beach. There is a parking lot at 2nd street as well. This park is good for all age kids with different levels of risk. Plenty of benches for the parents. I love the spongy floor. See more..
We stayed in the Croatan neighborhood for the week and the beach is beautiful - not crowded at all. There is a surfer area near the inlet, but the rest of the beach is for swimming/beach activities. Dogs are allowed before 10am and after 6pm. The ocean goes to about waist deep fairly quickly, but then is pretty flat for quite a ways out so it makes it easy to play in the waves. Would highly recommend!See more..
4.5Fort Story Jetty(51 reviews) - Trash and treasures Thursday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Beaches
Visit the lighthouse but also beach at Fort Story is a very unique place to visit. If you walk from south(parking on 89th st.) to North you will find 1.5 miles of deserted beach and you will transition from the Atlantic to the mouth of the Chesapeake bay. Always plenty of ship traffic coming out of the bay, and today we watch the Harry S. Truman strike group return to port. The 18 rock piles created to stop erosion also have a second feature. As the tides move from the tourist center to the bay all the articles lost by the tourists end up on the beach between the rock breakwater. So if you like to scavenge visit at low tide and you will always find something interesting. Bring an extra bag to pick up trash.See more..
We were staying in Gloucester Courthouse and were looking for a nice beach close by. This beach is right by the bridge that goes to Williamsburg; there is a area for swimming and a fantastic fishing pier. The beach was clean, the people were nice and we really enjoyed it. One area to the left of the pier is designated for swimming as the water is calmer. The area to the right of the pier is closer to the main river and much rougher with stronger currents so swimming and wading is prohibited there. They have a great area to rinse off and we found parking with no problems. Don't miss this hidden gem!See more..
3.5Aquia Landing Park(6 reviews) - Nice small family, pet friendly beach. Clean. Points of Interest & Landmarks • Beaches
Just discovered this neat little beach recently. Dog friendly, swimming friendly, perfect for kids. If you are looking for waves, look elsewhere (except maybe during a hurricane). If you are looking for calm, warm relatively shallow waters with a relatively less crowded beach and clean sand, this is a good choice. nice places to walk, although no real trails to walk or hike. Today, there was a fair amount of seaweed in the water, but not enough to keep you from jumping in. This place is off the beaten path, so there is limited cell service and internet connectivity (probably a good thing) and no stores nearby (so bring in your own stuff). Clean rest rooms. watch out for snakes ("Snakes...why'd it have to be snakes?"). Also watch out for bald eagles, heron, etc. Worth a day in the summer.See more..
4.5Gloucester Point Beach(4 reviews) - Nice beach unless you go in July or August, to many stinging nettles. Thursday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Spent 1-2 hours Beaches You can fish off the docks without a fishing licence. Walking distance to historical sites, bar, waterman's museum, resteraunt.See more..
4.0Old Aaron's Beach(1 review) - Smaller beach, but in a great location Beaches This beach is the smallest of the three in and around Diggs. It has a nice shoreline, and was well populated. There were families of all demographics; couples (like us), families with little kids, families with teenagers, and solo-ers.See more..
4.0Haven Beach(1 review) - Very nice beach, lots of room to spread out Beaches This beach is a lot larger than it first seems (turn left from the walk-in and you'll see what I mean). Fishing and shell collecting is allowed, as well as a lot more social events, so there are more people which makes it a great beach for those of us who love to "people watch" in addition to getting our toes in the sand.See more..
