    Catoctin Creek Distillery image
Catoctin Creek® Distilling Company was founded by Becky and Scott Harris in 2009 as the first legal distillery in Loudoun County since before Prohibition. We are located in Purcellville, Virginia, in the heart of the Loudoun Valley. Loudoun County, often called D.C.'s Wine Country, is home to more than twenty vineyards and wineries, and it now has a distillery. At Catoctin Creek, we believe in high quality food and spirits. Organic means higher quality: grain and fruit, sourced locally when possible, free of pesticides and chemical additives that would come through in the spirits we produce. Sure, it is more difficult to produce organically, but the results speak for themselves. The Virginia Rye Whisky! See more..

  7. 4.0 Castle Hill Cider (110 reviews)
    - Absolutely breathtaking property and very tasty cider!
    Wednesday: Distilleries
    Castle Hill Cider image
We had a wonderful visit to Castle Cider Hill this weekend. Although we were obviously visiting in the "off season", we still enjoyed tasting their ciders and checking out their amazing barn and tasting room! The ciders were not at all what I was expecting after having had only mass-produced grocery store quality cider my whole life!! The ciders were complex and not overly sweet. We were extra excited to get to try the mulled cider as an added bonus for our mid-winter visit! The barn as Castle Cider Hill would be an amazing party/wedding venue and I can only imagine how beautiful it will be in the spring/summer/fall!! See more..

.What a great afternoon we had. I always wanted to visit This Distillery. It's very close to where we live in Herndon just never had the opportunity and decided that this would be a great adult family outing. We were not disappointed we had a private tour with Greg and learned everything about making bourbon gin and whiskey; it was very informative. We then spend some time tasting various cocktails and gins in The Tasting Room, exciting how different one particular Distillery can make one product three or four different ways. I highly recommend anyone passing through Manassas to take a detour and stop there. You'll be treated credibly well, and you will not be disappointed See more..

    - Family-run Whiskey

    Ironclad Distillery image
Nice spot inside a refurbished storehouse from the era of shipbuilding days long gone. Even have some of the old blast doors in place. The family running this distillery has done a great job renovating this building and turning it into a great spot for hanging out. Good whiskey and fun company here. Highly recommend taking the tour, if available. It's a nice local hangout with a relaxed atmosphere. The name comes from the famous battle of ironclads, which took place just south of the building in the James River during the Civil War, between the USS Monitor and CSS Merrimack. Thus, students of history will also have special appreciation for the location and the meaning behind the name. See more..
  20. 5.0 Twin Creeks Distillery (8 reviews)
    - Go visit them
Wednesday: 4:00 PM - 9:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Distilleries
    Twin Creeks Distillery image
We are a local distillery making craft spirits from recipes handed down for generations. Growing up in the middle of Franklin County, VA, Chris Prillaman was always around folks that either made illegal moonshine liquor or hauled it as bootleggers. From this history he grew to love three things..his family, his music and making liquor. From this passion Twin Creeks Distillery was born in 2014. Nothing commercialized, only authentic and true to roots ways of producing spirits. Each piece of equipment was hand made by Chris and local friends. Many pieces were even snagged out of the woods and preserved to use in the production of our award winning Twin Creek's small batch products. Come see how we make our craft whiskies, brandies and moonshines. You can tour the distillery and take a seat at the bar to try a sample in a cocktail or straight up. Must be 21 years or older. You may even hear a tale or two from Chris himself. See more..

After reading about Three Crosses Distillery and the awards they have won with their liquor, I decided to give it a try. The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful with their descriptions of their liquor that they had to offer. I tried the Shine, a spiced rum and their whiskey. They were all good and I was surprised how smooth the whiskey was so I bought a bottle. Very nice as advertised. See more..

    - Great Place!

    Franklin County Distilleries image
Franklin County has always been a historical crossroads and center for local cultural exchange. The Scotch-Irish settled in southwest Virginia and brought with them recipes and techniques for distilling spirits that are still used today. Franklin County Distilleries (FCD) incorporates that history and culture into all of our products as we look to the future. Here at Franklin County Distilleries, our products are crafted to mirror the brands that bootleggers built, and offer a true taste of history and heritage in every bottle. Our recipes are birthed and bottled in the Moonshine Capital of America; Franklin County Virginia. All of our products are slow run, small batch, and distilled using locally sourced products and some of the cleanest, Blue Ridge Mountain fed, water in America. FCD’s line of products are perfect for sipping by themselves, enjoying on the rocks, and pair beautifully with any number of traditional drink recipes and juices. See more..

  28. 5.0 Three Brother's Distillery (1 review)
    - Not Your Grandpa's Gin, but maybe his corn liquor
    Distilleries
In the middle of no where and worth the drive. The three guys that work there love their craft and their efforts show in the tasting room. Took a tour and loved it. Had a taste and some cocktails and loved that more. Enjoyed the rum and corn liquor, but really liked the brown gin. It's like nothing you're ever tasted before. Can't wait until April 1st to try the rye that is patiently waiting in the holding tanks. We went for a taste and spent three hours there. The guys that run the place are fantastic and want to tell how they make great liquor. Dave, Chip and George, thanks and cheers. A great afternoon. See more..

  30. 4.0 Smith River Spirits (1 review)
    - If you are looking for something very local, this could be it
    Wednesday: Distilleries
Smith River Spirits is a little off the beaten path, not far from Gravely Nature Preserve. This would be a little bit of a unique stop for a tourist in the area. There is good signage, so pull in and find a parking spot. One of the partners was there when I visited and he gave a tour (it's not a huge place but the cask room is impressive) and a taste of the syrah that will be ready around the end of October. And it's goooooood. I will be watching for that to come on the market and sending as a Christmas gift to at least one family member. I had heard local buzz about their apple brandy and how they are bringing back the old, artisanal approach to it, so that is what motivated my visit. Turns out that they are really serious about this. They used local apples from Wade's Orchard this past year and will be or are currently planting four orchards here in the area to produce apples specific to making brandy. I bought a bottle to share with family planning to visit in the fall but haven't tasted it yet. He said that it was entered in a international competition and took second place (and the syrah is amazing so, for now, I'm a believer). Connoisseurs of brandies or artisanal spirits in general, this is your place. You must stop in. For the rest of us, it's a cool stop, something to talk about, and you can bring a bottle home.
