5.0Hawksbill Mountain(160 reviews) - Upper Hawksbill trail is a relatively easy and rewarding hike Mountains
We hiked the Upper Hawksbill trail, up and back, which is much easier and shorter than the Lower Hawksbill trail or the full loop. It's a little over 1 mile each way with areas of incline but no scrambles. If there's good weather, I'd highly recommend getting to the parking lot no later than 10:30, preferably earlier, because it does fill up.See more..
Absolutely breathtaking awe inspiring views. Quite a hike if your a bit older. Was told you can see 4 states from there. Mountain and valley views that go on forever. Take a good pair of binocularsSee more..

We took our dog here for a great hike in spring. There is about 2 miles of trail making a loop that leads up to the summit. Oak Trail leads along the flank of the mountain and there were a tremendous amount of trillium and other wildflowers. Barrens Loop Trail leads to the summit with fantastic views from the highest point in Floyd County. The top part of the trail is roped off to keep hikers on the trail and prevent trampling sensitive wildlife. Please stay within the roped off trail. The 1-mile gravel road to the parking area is very narrow with a few pull-offs for oncoming traffic. Drive slowly and cautiously. Overall, a great spot for a hike with wildflowers and scenic views.See more..
Buffalo Mountain, one of the tallest mountains in the area, is a local landmark. The short hike up the mountain isn't too difficult and when you reach the top, it flattens out and gives you plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the view. We usually take a picnic and soak in the sights for a long time. Birdwatchers come in the fall to enjoy migration. Even bad weather can be enjoyed as you watch storms roll in, just be sure to give yourself enough time to make it back to your vehicle before it catches you. The parking area is small, and some cars won't even make it there due to the dirt road washing out, but there are some parking spots on the state maintained road if you don't mind walking further.See more..
What can I say... What a nice day for a white wedding. The view was amazing and so were the bride and groom! It was a 45 minute ride and when you get to the top there's a hardtop and guard rails. I bet it is beautiful in the fall too. Some of the ride was bumpy then it became paved as you got closer to the top. The road does also become one lane so I'm glad we didn't run into another car going down! LolSee more..

This is a Nature Conservatory showcase and a great option for avoiding the weekend trek crowds on the Shenandoah NP trails. Wildcat Mountain has a long history dating back to Lord Fairfax. It is found in Fauquier Co, off I-66 at Marshall. There are great options to buy a pack-in lunch in town. Once at the gravel road parking area and trail head (with maps), a well-marked trail ascends quickly over several switchbacks to get to the relatively rolling top of this land preserve. Elevation about 1200 ft. A 3.5 mile loop trail brings you to an old homestead site and a stone crafted Spring House. There are nice rock outcroppings with views westward towards beautiful valley farms but no cleared peak view. Tall timber, an open meadow, cool springs and numerous old stone walls are all on this trail. There are also bear, wild turkey and other wildlife to see making it a wonderful weekend destination and a favorite VA hike.See more..
