4.0The Homestead(324 reviews) - Expensive, Worth a Visit, Remember it is Historic and Not New. Historic Sites • Golf Courses • Spas
We love The Homestead. It is amazing. And nice to see that Omni is investing in it to bring it back up to standards. But there remain issues. The air-conditioning in our room did not work. It cycled on and off and the fins were clogged with dust which could have been the cause of the problem. There was a thick layer of dust on the tile at the top edge in the bathroom. The rooms are expensive, which should be expected. But additional taxes by the state and local government plus resort fees add an extra $100. It is annoying that after charging all that amount, they try to get another $5 whole dollars to go from 10 mbps to 30 mbps on the internet. Really, $5?! If you have never been here, it is worthwhile staying for a night or two. It is stunning. If you are a golfer, the courses are great. But remember that you are staying at a historic hotel and not a new (and sterile) copy of a chain hotel. Expect some surprises, some pleasant and others not.See more..

Wonderful golf course! It was in perfect shape and very challenging. We drove up from Greensboro, NC to escape the crazy heat and what a difference it made. Instead of 95 degrees as it was in Greensboro, we escaped to 84 degrees. The elevation there is around 2700 ft above sea level, so it makes a huge difference. By comparison, Asheville is only around 2100 ft above sea level. From our location we are a 1.5 hour drive so it is pretty convenient. We will be planning a stay and play event there, as they have many options for this and pretty nice places to stay. Our round was $55 and was so worth it. I highly recommend this golf course. People there are very nice and appreciate you being there. You will not regret booking a tee time there. I will let you know later how it was when we stay there as well.See more..

4.0Royal New Kent(37 reviews) - Mike Stranz Best Golf Courses
This is a course that takes two or three rounds to really embrace and enjoy. It is challenging and in the Mike Stranz design tradition messes with your mind on the visuals. If your a first timer, you need someone who has played the course with you, otherwise it will be a frustrating day (it also helps if you can hit it where your playing partners tell you to). You can see elements of Tobacco Road in Royal New Kent, but RNK is not nearly as extreme. I played Tobacco Road once, because everyone should say they have done it, then swore never again. Every time I am back in the Richmond/Williamsburg area, I make Point to play RNK. It is fun and challenging. Condition, especially the bunkers, can be a challenge due to the extreme faces, but other wise it is a visual treat and typically in good condition.See more..
Friend of mine told me to try Augustine Golf Course again bcoz it’s in a very good shape. Yes, it was in a great shape. Fairways and Greens were awesome. Great job by new head pro and his staff. I’m glad I went back. Very friendly Head pro. Whoever had stopped going there due to bad condition of the course I suggest you give another try. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.See more..

Golly Gee! I tell you what, I went here with my grandpapa ever since the 40's and it's only gotten better! I remember when there was just a forest here and we were putting on autumn leaves! An incredible course with beautifully dead grass surrounding the entire water feature in the center. The insane amount of opossums was slightly off-putting when they attacked me and my little boy but nothing we couldn't fight off with our clubs and our wits about us!See more..

3.0Sly Fox Golf Club(17 reviews) - Challenging and affordable Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Golf Courses My golfing buddies and I played Jackson's Chase three times this past year. It can be a bit of a challenge but is a good playable course. I enjoy playing this course as much as or more than the other three courses we play in Front Royal. As seniors we usually play from the forward tees and are able to improve our scores as well as our pace of play (to the extent anyone ahead of us is playing). We last played in the middle of December and thought the course was in decent shape for that time of year. We did not use them but I noticed a number of carts lined up with cold weather coverings on them (the day was nice enough, we did not need them). Have seen a few carts on courses using the cover but not a whole line of them. As seniors, the rates at Jackson's Chase are reasonable and if you have the Tee Time booklet, you can play one time for $15 and four times for $20 (Monday through Friday).See more..
4.0Hunting Hawk Golf Club(14 reviews) - Great gold course Thursday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Golf Courses
I live in the Nuckols Road corridor and this course can't be beat. The rates were reasonable on a weekday and the course is challenging enough to keep even the hardiest of players on their feet. Of course, the course may be short lived as the development companies are vying to take it over and turn it into a housing development so you better play quickly before time runs out. See more..
This was by far, the best golf experience of the courses I played in the Virginia Beach area. Tom Doak did a masterful job designing the layout. Check in was a breeze and the folks in the clubhouse and the 19th hole were great. The driving range was closed due to the wet weather but the putting and chipping greens were open and great. The layout winds through wetlands by the river with an occasional large houses off to the sides and out of play. The bunkering is top notch with beautiful shapes surrounding the greens and along many of the fairways. Due to the recent heavy rains, many of the bunkers had standing water. Some of the tees were rough due to the winter but other than that the course was in great shape, including excellent cart paths. There were several scenic forced carries over water and wetlands, which I found very intimidating but I did okay. The greens were awesome, not too fast but challenging with many tiers, ridges, and run offs.See more..
Draper Valley was part of a golf trip we booked through Region One Golf and Travel. Alan Kelly was outstanding trip organizer. Draper is rated as one of Golf Digests Top 50 under $50 and really deserves the rating. Clubhouse is fully stocked and folks were very accomodating. Replay rate for 3rd 9 was cart fee. Course layout is within housing development but homes are never intrusive. Wide variety of holes. Lots of room -- ALMOST impossible to loose a ball. Even in early March greens and fairways in good shape. Excellent practice ground. Only suggestion is to add a set of tees between the White (6412 yds) and Gold (5467 yds) --- White is to long for guys with 200 yd. tee shots and Gold is to short for their egos. Could have played this all 3 days.See more..

4.0Stonehouse Golf Club(13 reviews) - Great Value Thursday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Golf Courses
Stonehouse Golf Club designer Mike Strantz’ goal was to compliment nature so closely as to make the layout indistinguishable from Nature itself. This 18 hole, 7013 yard course is laid over wild, tumbling hills near the York River in the Tidewater Region. The natural beauty of virgin hardwoods thriving with wild turkey, deer, mountain laurel, and hollies provide the backdrop for spectacular golf in Virginia.See more..

5.0Piankatank River Golf Club(10 reviews) - First time playing, will be back today!!! Spent More than 3 hours Golf Courses
After reading reviews about bad tee blocks, yes first tee only! What a great course, very tricky front nine with some great dog legs, and elevation changes as well. The greens have plenty of undulation and where a decent speed. Back nine much more level and a few holes along the river for a nice views. The greens lend themselves to a variety of pin placements. Overall and excellent course and the bonus is the price range!!!See more..

4.0Dogwood Trace Golf Course(8 reviews) - Diamond Golf Courses Great course. From tee to green course in very good condition. Forgiving fairways, but nice imagination to layout. 4.5Brickshire Golf Club(8 reviews) - Traveling Through On Short Notice Golf Courses While traveling through New Kent, I stop at Brickshire to play a round of golf. Glad I did. Charlie and Cooper welcomed me on short notice and made me feel worthy to be there. They provided me great service and course was in great condition even though it was cart path only (not their fault due to heavy rain night before). I love the different looks of each hole, some challenging for my short game and some unpredictable due to undulating fairways for my long game such as par 4's both short and long ranges. You will even get audience from neighboring beautiful homes. If you ever visit the course, ask for them. You won't regret it. Thanks Charlie and Cooper for your hospitality. I won't forget you. 4.0Skyland Lakes Golf Club(7 reviews) - Great golf at reasonable price Spent More than 3 hours Golf Courses
This course is a fun layout just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. The course is set among rolling hills at an altitude of about 3000 feet. It's fun and challenging for the average golfer. Long hitters may find it a little short for their liking. The normal golfers think it's just fine! Water in play in several places. Not many bunkers and those that exist are not playable for the most part (in my opinion) so I'm happy that there are few. You will have fun on the course and also exploring the countryside around. Summers are great with temperatures about 10 degrees below the flat lands below. The Blue Ridge Music Center is just a few miles away with daily free concerts May through October and Saturday night concerts at varying ticket prices, depending on the artists performing.See more..
