    - Gorgeous Beaux-Arts style building

    Handley Regional Library image
Incredible to see such a building among all the old colonial and Gothic revival style ones. We drove by, and our jaws dropped. Parked our car (most spaces are metered———- a quarter for 20 minutes), and after climbing some stairs, we were inside. You almost feel like you entered a sanctuary, there is something so special about the space. The library opened in 1913, and has been beautifully maintained. We walked through all the rooms, and admired the details, the art work, the massive fireplaces, the elegant spiral staircases, the dome stained glass ceiling, etc. We were so involved with the building, that we barely noticed the books. It’s nice that they have a small wall dedicated to the architects (from New York), who designed this jewel. See more..

James Monroe Museum and Memorial Library image
Admission included with Day Pass. Restrooms on site. Street parking. Wonderful history stop to learn or enhance your knowledge about James Monroe, our 5th President (1817-1825). Enjoyed seeing all the personal artifacts of the Monroes. James Monroe is best known for establishing the foreign policy principle that came to bear his name, the Monroe Doctrine. And in 1817, the American Colonization Society, formed with the goal of returning freed slaves to Africa and purchased land from Upper Guinea in West Africa for the colony. In 1821 a ship carrying some of these settlers landed. In 1822 a second ship was sent to this modern day Liberia. In 1824, the city was renamed to Monrovia in honour of President James Monroe. President Monroe was a prominent supporter of the colony and in the concept of sending freed slaves to Liberia. See more..

    - Research facility is great for Genealogists
Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Libraries
As a Genealogist this location is one of the best research locations outside of the History Center in Salt Lake Center Utah. I found one of the most complete locations for Virginia History inside a branch library. It is like a library within a library. The desk clerk was most helpful and everyone I asked for help was very friendly. I would certainly go back there again in the future. See more..

  15. 5.0 Paul & Rosemary Trible Library (1 review)
    - Best Library in Newport News by Far
Spent More than 3 hours Libraries
I'm a bit surprised that this fantastic library wasn't already on here with plenty of reviews. The facilities are gorgeous, the resources and staff are excellent, and I'm thankful that it's local to me. Whether you're a student or not, this library is a significant asset to the Newport News community. Newport News has some fine libraries, but nothing that can compare to this one. I'm a bit timid to even write this review because I don't want too much of the public to start going there and right now the absence of other reviews on places like here likely contributes to it not being very crowded.
