    Mount Trashmore Park image
My dad has RAVED about Mt. Trashmore since he moved to the area so when I went down to visit I had to check it out. The park has a very interesting history. It’s a very nice park overall...the top of the “mountain” has great views of the skyline and the lake. There’s a really nice walking trail around the lake and the park has adequate parking and facilities. I imagine it would be a great place for locals to picnic and hang out. See more..

    Chincoteague Island Waterman's Memorial image
This place is a great spot to watch the sunset. It has a minimal walk to get to it. Located at the end of a marina it is not very clearly marked off. The view is so pretty and the signs with personal stories from the shipwrecks are humbling to read. It’s definitely a place I would recommend to go see when on the island. We wouldn’t have known to visit if your pony tour with Captain Dan wouldn’t have pointed it out during our tour. See more..

Decided to come down here one morning and got to enjoy a beautiful view of the river. A few things I have noted are: 1. If you are not familiar with the are, you can miss the entrance. It is a one lane gravel drive going down hill across from the library. 2. The parking lot is gravel, not paved, but plenty of parking. 3. Playground for the kids. 4. Restrooms/portal johns 5. Picnic area in a shaded area 6. Pier Worth a visit. Only wish the walk was extended out to the marina. Worth making it going from Point A to Point B. See more..

    - Great Bike Ride

    Island Park Trail image
The trail can be found up the road from the school. Parking is next to the dog park. We rode our bikes, and lots of the plants were labeled on the paved path section. We crossed the street to the gravel path which was fine for these two 70+ bike riders. As we rounded one bend, we almost crashed into a cawing and preening irate male peacock! He dared us to pass him, but not before giving us a real show of his prowess and bravado which he shouted to all potential mates in the area. This made our day! Such great natural sites! See more..

Lovely fall hike btw, leaves falling, very peaceful area. The hike from Milam Gap to the Camp is only about 4 miles round trip. We continued around in a clockwise loop from the Camp, to Laurel Prong Trail, to the AT segment that returned us to Milam Gap parking. RT just under 8 miles. AT passed us over the third highest peak in Shenandoah (Hazeltop). You can get a map off the park website, or rangers have them available at visitor centers. See more..
