Built in 1936, The State Theatre operated as a popular movie until the late 1980's. The first film shown was Thanks A Million starring Dick Powell and on November 27, 1988 the State closed its doors after a final showing of Die Hard starring Bruce Willis. The first theatre on the East Coast to be centrally air-conditioned, the State was the flagship of the family-owned Neighborhood Theatres chain which also operated, among others, the Glebe (now a Duron paint store), the Buckingham (now a Post Office) and the Jefferson (now a Chile's restaurant). A multi-million dollar restoration in the late 1990's turned it into the Washington Metro area's favorite new venue for live music and private events. The full theatrical stage is original, as are the 200 balcony seats and both lobbies. The theatre seats on the main floor were removed to allow for the re-design of the auditorium which now accommodates full service dining, standing and dancing areas and two full service bars. We had a great time at the vineyard. The wines and tasting were very nice. They did a great job with the social distancing. They are plenty of separate areas in a beautifully landscaped property. The tastings are done in the patio. Some people even brought their own tables and chairs. The owners and bartender were very friendly and everyone was having a great experience. My 22 year old son, and I visited seven arrows brewery today after hiking some trails. We had a delightful time. The bartender, Dan, gave total credit for the amazing beer to the owners, Aaron and Melissa Allen. However, I must give credit for the amazing customer service to Dan. They had a large variety of beer from seasonal dopplebock to red IPAs and (my favorite) a black lager. The beer was delicious and very well priced. Talk about stumbling into a find. Oozlefinch is a really cool brewery that I value across today... thank God. There beer selection is amazing, 15 in all. Ricky and Trina were amazing and fun while they took care of us at the bar. We ordered 2 flights and away we went! And what a flight it was, I'm still trying to figure out how to land this thing! The beers are amazing, they specialize in an array of sour beers with an amazing color presentation. Today, the food truck was a pizza truck...yum. I will review that shortly! What a fabulous view of the water! We sat outside and had lunch. The turkey sandwich was excellent and came with a bag of chips and pickle for 10 bucks. More than I could eat! Staff was very accommodating since I am not a pesto fan and got the garlic aioli instead. All staff wearing masks. Parked in garage above establishment with no fee. Go out and enjoy the view. This is my 3rd time stopping here when traveling to the Lynchburg area. I like stouts and imperials so i can't speek for the rest of there beer. I was traveling solo for a kayak trip, and had cocktails and ordered dinner (from the connected Pizza restaurant) sitting at the bar at Francis. The bartendress was friendly and efficient. A couple of restaurant managers from nearby came in to drink and to chat; the room is intimate enough that we all joined in friendly conversation. The drink menu is varied and creative.
