1 Star Places To Visit in Virginia, United States (8)
1.5Rockfish Gap Tourist Information Center(3 reviews) - Start your journey here Visitor Centers Afton and Rockfish Gap have a lot of hidden attractions, restaurants, wineries, hiking trials etc. The visitors center is a great place to stop and get information to plan your day. Since it is at the top of Afton Mountain where the Appalachian Trail, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Skyline Drive through Shenandoah National Park meet and cross over Interstate 64 , its location not only provides a near 360 view of the Shenandoah and Rockfish Valleys, but makes a good center point for various trips or hikes. Make sure you ask for direction to the east or west trailheads of area's newest attraction, the Blue Ridge Tunnel which goes under the mountain upon which the Visitor Center is located . This tunnel was designed by Claudius Crozet and built in the 1850's. The Tunnel It was in use until the middle of WWII. It was abandoned and closed for over 75 years, but was opened to the public this year as Nelson County's newest park. See more..

1.0Holly Grove Marina(1 review) - Not friendly Marinas My wife and rented a pontoon boat for the day from them. We stopped in the night before to confirm reservation and was told they didn't have us down but they had one available. We had set the reservation up more than a month in advance not very organized. They weren't very friendly or helpful when asked questions about fishing tackle and bait got the impression that we were interrupting them. We showed up the next morning to rent boat had to wait for him to finish fuel it up. We filled out the paperwork and made payment for rental. We then went down to the b ok at where we got a real quick orientation about the boat and were sent on our way. We again felt that we were an interruption in there day. The boat itself was in need of some repair, no horn, handled very sluggishly, GPS depth finder was broken, front seats felt like they were gonna break when you leaned back in them, seat cushions were torn and missing padding, over all the boat was in need of a little TLC. I feel that overall they really don't care about their customers return business. We were never told to fill it up with fuel before returning it. We were told that if we needed to get fuel there were a few places on the lake to do that. We were hit with a 40 dollar charge for fuel when we returned. We will not be doing anymore business with them and I would suggest anyone reading this to do the same. We foolishly used them without checking reviews for them first they were recommended by the campground we were staying at. We did read a few reviews on them afterwards and realized that we were one of the fortunate customers . All the reviews we read the peoples boats broke down and needed to be rescued with much resistance on Hilly Grove Marina's part. We can't stress enough to stay clear of them when thinking about a boat rental in the Lake Gaston area See more..
1.0Blue Ridge Plateau Regional Visitors Center(1 review) - Not the Same! Thursday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Art Galleries For many years we would stop at the Blue Ridge Plateau Regional Visitors Center. It was housed in a very nice building near its present location. It was clean and bright inside and showcased the work of Virginia craftspeople. We would stop there just to look around and shop, whether or not we needed to use the restrooms. It was fun! Unfortunately, it has drastically changed. When we pulled into the area it was no longer in the old building. After looking at the website we found it has been moved into the farmers market. The website claims it still has the crafts, and it seems just to have moved into the other building. Not so! What a disappointment! When walking into the building the funky smells of the produce greet you. It is not a very welcoming place. A very nice man was behind what I suppose was an information desk of sorts. I asked where the visitors center was and he gestured at the desk. That’s the extent of it now. There is a bathroom. It has cinderblock walls and is quite ugly. I will say it had the basics, soap, water, etc. It was clean enough. Still, to call this the Visitors Center is a joke. We will never bother to stop there again. Too bad.See more..
