While I like the concept I have been disappointed in the cleanliness of the theater. The restrooms are usually a mess and the food is not really great.See more..
2.0Rivers Casino Portsmouth(11 reviews) - Will never go back Smell of smoke and weed everywhere. Not clean lots of slots out of order. Temporarily closed - Closed until further notice Casinos
Wanted to give this place a honest chance since it’s the first casino in the area. When you walk in you are hit in the face with the smell of smoke and weed. When about 15 percent of the population smokes it seems stupid to cater to them over the rest of the population. Also many machines out of order and dirty with left over drinks sitting on them. When you go to the cashier to cash out they have about 6 windows to cash out but only 2 of them open on the first Saturday after you open this is unacceptable. I personally won’t be going back. If I want to gamble I will make the ride north to Dover where I can gamble in a clean well maintained casino and not smell like a ashtray when I leave. Even Rosie’s in Hampton is a better option then this place.See more..

2.5Fort Nonsense Historical Park(9 reviews) - Small Historic Site Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas
Located at a crossroads, this small civil war is a good short stop for two reasons. You can stretch your legs in nature and have a bathroom break. It has a short accessible nature trail with picnic area, historic markers, and an observation deck. The front parking lot area has a porta potty.See more..
2.5The Trump Store(8 reviews) - Glad we stopped Speciality & Gift Shops As we were driving through Boones Mill, we decided to stop at the Trump Store. It is definitely worth the stop. There is a variety of merchandise related to Trump, 2nd Amendment, pro-law enforcement, and other conservative topics. Some of it is very humorous. There is a life size Trump and Melania and the owners will gladly take your pic. The warning would be that if you are a "snowflake" or easily "triggered," this is probably not the place for you. We'll stop again.See more..
2.5Virginia Center Commons(8 reviews) - Regal Cinema Virginia Center Commons Spent More than 3 hours Shopping Malls My wife and I have been going to this theatre for many years, so we were shocked to find that our experience this time was almost terrible. They have cut staff so low that there was no one to sell us tickets. They eliminated all the ticket sales kiosks except for one. (There used to be four) The only way you could buy a ticket was to stand in line at the concession stand. One half hour later we bought our tickets for $16.30 for two seniors. Then we just waked into the cinema with no one watching us. We saw that you could just walk in the front door and go right in since there was no one taking tickets or even cared that some one could do just that. Amazing Attitude. Oh yes, the Virginia Center Commons Shopping Mall is closing for good in January 2020. A group of investors is going to try to build a sports stadium. I do not know if it will be in door or out door. Society has really changed over the last several years. The whole concept of an indoor mall is out dated.See more..
2.5Regal Southpark Mall Stadium 16(7 reviews) - just ok Movie Theaters Like all other theaters now, this is understaffed and has ridiculous prices for food. There are seldom any ticket agents up front, because they want you to go inside and use the kiosk to do it yourself. Saves them MORE money. The ticket prices are reasonable, but you make up for it if you want any snacks, drinks or goodness forbid GOLD LADEN popcorn. (That was sarcasm.) See more..
2.5The Rink at Massanutten(7 reviews) - First time for a kid from Texas to skate. Spent < 1 hour Game & Entertainment Centers

Whenever you choose to visit some place in the off-season, oftentimes the event/site is not open. Such was the case we found when we took the Jamestown-Scotland ferry to Surry to check out the Surry Nuclear Information Center. Prior to our visit, I had checked the website which did not give any indication it was mot open at this time to the public. According to my research, the Center has a model of a nuclear reactor as well as other static displays and interactive exhibits on mining uranium to the production of electricity. On the positive side, it was nice seeing Surry countryside.See more..
2.0Westlake Rental Boats(4 reviews) - Be cautious with this hostile business owner Boat Rentals
Friends and I rented a pontoon during Memorial Day weekend. Because the boat we reserved was "in the shop," we received an inferior boat for the price of the reserved boat. Our pontoon was nice, however. At the end of the day, to save cost on refueling, the owner suggested we take his gas containers to a local gas station instead of paying him to buy the more expensive gas at the nearby marina. Because we used 1/3 - 1/2 tank, he gave us 2 5-gallon containers and suggested we buy 7 gallons (suggesting a 21 or so gallon tank.) Little did we know that it was impossible to fill the gas tank on the pontoon with gas from the containers due to the position of the gas tank. So, we allowed him to buy the gas from the marina. We were charged $81.86 for 17 gallons of gas, approximately $1 more per gallon than the actual price of the gas at the marina. Plus we were never reimbursed for the 7 gallons we purchased at the local gas station. Although our boat was clean and in good running order, I feel we were taken advantage of by the price of the gasoline. Even though we were scammed out of $17, plus the cost of the gas we bought, he's lost our business, and I would never recommend this company to anyone. If you're staying at Westlake Waterfront Inn, renting from Wendell is very convenient; and his boats are nice. However, if you do rent from him, YOU refuel the boat yourself. I have to add, Wendell has received great reviews on other sites. But I feel like he treated us badly.See more..

2.5Jubal a Early Homeplace(3 reviews) - A Remarkable Old Curmudgeon Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites
Jubal Early was quite a remarkable man, talented, opinionated, contentious in the extreme, who was born in Franklin County, Virginia in 1816. He received a lawyer’s license, then graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in West Point. His return to the practice of law was interrupted by his service in the Mexican War, after which he returned home, later serving on the committee for determining the direction Virginia would take regarding secession. He strenuously opposed the question, but, being outvoted overwhelmingly, cast his lot with his native Virginia. He rose to the rank of Major General and command of the late “Stonewall” Jackson’s Second Corps. After the war he was esteemed as a chronicler of the conflict until his death in 1894. His home is a gracious edifice, atop a steep hill with pleasing vistas in every direction. Though not especially pretentious, it is perfectly suited to the relaxed elegant style of a Virginia gentlemen.See more..

2.5The Westlake(2 reviews) - Up and Down Golf Courses The Westlake Golf Club provided a fun and reasonably challenging round of golf. Many of the holes had either an elevated tee box or green. A couple holes had targeting aids because of blind approaches. Trees lined most fairways, but the fairways were not narrow. The fairways and the greens were in very good shape, but the bunkers had firm sand. It was a pleasant and scenic course.See more..
2.5Brandy Station Battlefield(2 reviews) - Largest Cavalry Battle of the Civil War Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Battlefields We saw signage near Elkwood so we decided to check it out. It is on the road to Culpepper Regional Airport beyond the main areas. It has a small gravel parking area from which you can see several kiosks along a footpath on a small rise. We were surprised that there was not much information beyond the kiosks given the nature of the battle. The site is preserved by the Civil War Preservation Trust. We did not stop at the nearby Brandy Station Foundation Visitor Center since it was late in the day.See more..

2.0Waynesboro Golf and Country Club(2 reviews) - Needs work Spent More than 3 hours Golf Courses The golf course has recently changed hands. Maintenance appears to be lacking. Greens were hard and slow and showed signs of disease (bare spots), fairways near greens appeared very dry and had been aerated (sliced). It took ten minutes to get keys fro the golf carts. Decided change for the worst from a year ago. The only good part was the associated bar in the basement of the clubhouse. Pleasant room and good service.See more..
2.0Dr. Peter Eppes House(2 reviews) - After visiting General Grant's HQ, Hopewell's compact historic district makes an easy stroll Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
Located on a quiet residential street 2 doors down from St. Dennis Chapel and near City Point and General Grant's HQ, you can easily walk from the NPS parking lot to view both historic properties. The Historic Hopewell Foundation (HHF) acquired Dr. Peter Eppes House (1830s) in 2005 and is now the headquarters for HHF. A quick stop if pressed for time, but also an important place to stop by and soak in the history of the place.See more..
2.0Wet Connection(1 review) - Rental Boats in Poor Condition Gear Rentals The pontoon boat we rented was in a bad state of repair. The throwable PFD cushion was in shreds, the anchor was missing and the canopy had several bolts missing and looked like it was going to come down at any moment, especially in rough water. The boat had obviously been involved in numerous collisions, based on the number of dents around the outside. The outboard ran OK, but was greatly under-powered for that size boat. I would advise you to look for other rentals on Smith Mountain Lake. There are several.See more..
2.0Compton Gap Trail(1 review) - No need to endure this Hiking Trails The trail heads uphill to a T intersection. To the right is a viewpoint overlooking the valley. To the left is an unusual geometric formation of rocks. The drawback is that either way you have to walk on what is loosely called the trail, which is really angled and jagged rocks jutting out of the soil making the "trail" difficult to walk on - if not a recipe for orthopedic intervention. You can get nice views on other trails (Blackrock in Big Meadow, Blackrock Summit, Stony Man, Hawksbill) and there are unusual rocks at Hawksbill.See more..
