Fabulous Collection and Great Tour Guides
Wonderful Tour Guide Lar Stampe met us at the front and gave us a fabulous tour. He described some of his own personal flying history and told us about the different aircraft at the museum. We arrived early morning in mid February, which happened to be a beautiful and warm sunny day. We spent about an hour browsing the galleries and had questions answered by several of the really knowledgeable docents, many of whom were pilots. We then took a tour of the external storage area and WWII operations center. All were fascinating, and Lar was the best! We then took a break for lunch (off campus.) We came back for another 2 hours or so to look at the rest of the planes. It is a great collection with knowledgeable guides. I'll come back again, especially in the summer when they are flying!

    Fascinating and Worth the Drive!
My wife and I led our church senior group to the MAM and everyone had a great time. There were 26 of us in the group and we were met at the door to the primary entrance to the museum complex when we arrived. We had several volunteer docents who accompanied us throughout our 2 1/2 hour visit. After the few folks who drove themselves had boarded our 23 passenger church bus along with 3 docents, we drove the short distance to the first two of the hangers we visited. It was amazing to see how many "antique" planes they had in each of the hangers, all in great shape with most of their inventory actually flyable. After detailed explanations about the various aircraft in the WWI and WWII hangers, we rode back to the Army and Navy hangers to view more great displays with details provided by our wonderful guides. The tour does involve a reasonable amount of walking, but no one was hurried in any fashion. It was nice to be upfront and close with all the aircraft (except those hanging from the ceiling). We had a great, fascinating time and I would recommend a visit for anyone with any interest in aviation, history, or just "plane" curiosity.
