   We hold our annual Memorial Weekend Camping Trip in Sterling every year, last year and this year being held at Riverview...last year during a second summer camping trip we did our canoeing through Whites due to trying to coordinate with a group that was staying their, big mistake...there was no coordination to the check-in process and made it a jumbled mess...you have to wait until your group name is called to direct you towards a bus to take you up the river, rather than directing you to an area. the bathrooms were disgusting and I have seen cleaner ones at a dive bar in downtown Detroit. Go ten minutes up the road and stay at Riverview...its family run and they seem to have a pretty good hold on things, making the checkin processes for canoeing and camping flow very seamlessly.    We arrive around 5:30pm on a Saturday and the bar was packed . We decided the best place to order was at the bar. We got the drinks pretty quick but we had to be a bit aggressive. We ordered the coconut shrimp but they forgot so we ordered the again, 30 minutes later we asked what happened to our order and he handed me shrimp and an order of fries, so we got free fries and someone else ordered again. the bummer was the food was cold but so was the beer all good. great view on a sunny summer day. After we went out to dinner we returned for the live music and danced and drank and had a great time. The couple called Ernest Entertainment have some talent. I think they play there regularly.    The resort appeared clean and nice. I was very unhappy with the short dock they put my pontoon at and received no resolution from them. The owner informed me docks were expensive.    These people quoted us a price over the phone, size, duration. We got there 1 hr. Later and they charged double what we were quoted. They just vaguely pointed where our boat was. We boarded the wrong boat, no guidance from them, after we found our boat and it wasn’t in great shape, cushions were ripped. When we docked the boat where we got it from a man yelled at us from way up at the office, to bring the boat to the fuel dock, then charged us 6$ per gallon!     I have visited this restaurant/bar several times over the past few years. We typically stop in 6-8 times each fall, midday on the weekends. In the past I would have rated this a 4 star. We just visited again for the first time this fall and found that things have gone downhill. One of the most striking things we observed is the cook swearing and complaining, easily heard at our table from her spot in the kitchen. She was mainly complaining about more customers coming in (there were only 3 tables eating) and she was unhappy with the waitresses performance for some reason. The food was average, has gone downhill a tad from past visits. There are not many options in Standish, this would be a nice place if some simple things were addressed. See more..

    Here today for dinosaurs and dinosaurs alone. A SWEET collection of moving dinosaurs that had my boys begging to go back for the rest of our vacation. For those that complain about them being silly plastic dinosaurs... know that dinosaurs are now extinct so impossible for Sloan to bring in real ones. My two and four year old boys loved them and we went around that circle endless times to see them move again and again.     Lilac is under new ownership as of spring 2021. They wasted no time in making improvements to the golf course as well as the Clubhouse. 1st thing they did was repair the cart paths and the parking lot. They immediately started repairing the dilapidated golf carts and they are now running well and dependable, you should not be left in the middle of the Fairway with a broken down cart. They're working hard to improve the greens which were neglected by the previous owner over the years. Fairways are regularly cut off the rough is fair for the average player. They are in the process of restoring the bunkers which have been nonexistent for decades. Lilac is on her way back to being a great place to play golf at a reasonable price. Plus the new ownership is working on opening a real grille offering more than just hotdogs and chips, can't wait to see the menu and try the food.     I pulled up to the stop sign in my little car and was just going to walk out to the beach and get some Lake Huron photos. I pulled up to the stop sign and had my 3 dollars out and the guy in the chair who appeared to be working and just stared at me. After a minute or so of just sitting there, someone walked up to him and asked about ice or something and he helped them, as I just sat in my car. I just drove in and parked. I kept my $3 since they didn't seem to want it. The beach area was cool. There was tall grasses in the water that were great for the foreground of my pictures and a few kayakers out that added a little action to some of the pictures. Nice beach. Odd people running it. While the course is attractive, it is far too challenging for me and I would not play here again. On the back nine, there are wetlands with tall grass on most of the holes and for me it is very challenging to hit over long distance of wetlands. The staff at the course is friendly and courteous. Saw some awesome competition. Now for the bad. Lack of a family/non-smoking/non-drinking section. Ticket taker laughed at my asking. I moved a couple of times to dodge the tobacco clouds. One person sitting next to me had a weeks supply of beer in a jumbo cooler for the 3 hours or racing. I bailed before the feature so as not to get caught up in the fired up drunks thinking they were the new Petty.     Inexpensive private lessons $20 per hour that we purchased in March. They one schedule one week in advanced. The judgement call made to keep our daughters private lesson when her instructor was no longer available while was disappointing. As our child became distracted and leaned on the horse the person overseeing was multitasking and not watching. Therefore the horse moved and stepped on our childs foot. Our lesson should have been cancelled when staff is not available. Thankfully the only part of her foot that was hurt is the big toe. We have an appointment with the poditrist upon our return home from vacation. We cancelled our remaining lessons and the owner refused to issue a refund.     Well, this is hard to consider a park. The road back is one lane, dirt, and poorly maintained. Once I did reach the park, there wasn't hardly even a parking area. The grass and weeds where overgrown. there were a couple picnic tables that you really didn't dare to walk to (ticks!), and not much else. On the plus side, the view was very pretty. I took a bunch of pictures of the water in the distance. That's about all you dared to do really. There was a trail that went through that had a sign about birds, but the gate was closed.
