  1. 4.5 Fort George National Historic Site of Canada (1.262 reviews)
    - Kept teenagers happy, in the rain

Fort George National Historic Site of Canada image
it was a rainy day in May 2022 when we visited, carrying umbrellas. It is clear that the site management and animators enjoyed their work and intended to provide a fulfilling experience. Our son was happy to watch the black powder drill (twice!). We explored the entire fort in about 2-3 hrs, if I recall correctly, reading the sign boards and talking with the animators. Good discussion in the kitchen, and rolling the powder cartridge papers; the rifleman answered all questions and the officer spoke knowledgeably about the battle history. All of the animators, actually, were happy to chat and answer, regardless that they were normally standing in the rain, kudos! (I think it was May 22/22, but will edit as necessary...) See more..

  5. 4.5 Killarney Provincial Park (375 reviews)
    - Beautiful Hikes
    National Parks
    Killarney Provincial Park image
On this occasion I decided to stick to hiking (no canoeing). I did three of the hikes - The Crack, the Chikanishing Trail and the Granite Ridge Trail. I did these all in one day because of time constraints, which was pushing it a bit. If you are reasonably fit you should be able to do two of them in a day, if you are inclined to do so. As advertised by the Provincial Park, there is some steep rock scrambling at the end of the Crack. My favorite hikes were the Crack and the Chikanishing which have stunning scenery. The Granite Ridge is also a beautiful hike but, in my opinion, not as spectacular as the other two. If you are planning on head out early in the morning then I recommend that you purchase your Provincial Park entry permit the previous day, as the office at the visitor center only opens at 8.30am. 6. 4.0 Grundy Lake Provincial Park (204 reviews)
    - A Family Favourite
    National Parks
    Grundy Lake Provincial Park image
I have been camping at Grundy since 1958 (the year before the park opened). There is something about Grundy Lake that sets it apart from other Provincial Parks. Perhaps it is the ambient fragrance of white pine needles warmed by the sun. Perhaps it is the call of the loon. I have always found the park staff at tis park to be very friendly and welcoming. (Who wouldn't be working in a gorgeous natural environment such as this?). Unlike many other parks, EVERY campsite is excellent. They are consistently large and have buffer zones between them. And when darkness falls, the park becomes absolutely quiet. The location is great, swimming excellent, and trails well-marked and not too difficult. The Supply Post at he park entrance is well equipped to handle all your needs. See more..

A beautiful park. We rented bicycles and were glad we did since we could see alot more of the island for the time we had. Cedar Springs was a very nice area. Next time we will go to the north side of the island, Definitely a nice place for a visit. It looks like a great place for camping as well. See more..
  8. 4.5 Fathom Five National Marine Park (184 reviews)
    - Both Flowerpot Island and the Visitors Centre are Worthwhile
Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM National Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas
Fathom Five National Marine Park image
We visited both Flowerpot Island via a Bruce Anchor Cruise, and the the Fathom Five Visitors Centre (which is included with your park pass). Both are well worth visiting. On Flowerpot Island we had up close glimpses of both Flowerpots and the Cave. We also saw the lighthouse and other islands from our boat (along with a couple of shipwrecks). Then at the Visitors Centre, we thoroughly enjoyed walking through the gallery of exhibits about Fathom Five, Bruce Peninsula and Tobermory. Then we climbed the steps to the top of the Lookout Tower for a great view of the bay and the Peninsula. If you are planning to only take the shipwreck tour think again and make sure a stop on Flowerpot Island in the Fathom Five National Park is included! See more..
  9. 4.5 Coronation Park (110 reviews)
    - My favourite park so far

    Coronation Park image
We’ve just moved to Oakville from the U.K. and are slowly working our way through the many parks in the city. This is my favourite so far. There is good parking (we went on a weekday so it wasn’t too busy) and there are two big play parks (one for toddlers) and a small cafe selling drinks and ice creams. There is an excellent splash pad (which the website had said was closed but was definitely open!) surrounded by grassy areas to sit and watch/picnic. And it’s right on the lake so you can also have a paddle in the water. See more..

    Neys Provincial Park image
Neys Provincial is very beautiful. We came in for a few hours to the day use area and had our picnic lunch.Walk along the beach to see magnificent views of the mountains and of Lake Superior. I would highly recommend the trail to the volcanic rock flows. Also the park has the history of being a former POW camp in the 40s so that adds to the experience See more..
  11. 4.5 Misery Bay Provincial Nature Reserve (83 reviews)
    - Magic....

Misery Bay Provincial Nature Reserve image
What a find! After hiking the insanely busy Cup and Saucer Trail. This park was all that you could wish for a short trail. We took the circular yellow trail, approx 7 KMS in total. The interior walk was beautiful woodland, moss and soft ground criss crossing alvar rock formations which ended on a wild windswept shoreline with a gazebo. The return hike took in shoreline and was more travelled, with evidence of its ice age rock formations. Note, only bathrooms on that trail (at least) are at Visitor Centre. See more..

    Forks of the Credit image
Well maintained trail, it has washrooms , unfortunately the access to the falls is closed. As you get closer to the falls the walk gets challenging. There is a long staircase, like 5 flights, good work out, $7.50 for parking for 4 hours, now you can book online on Ontario Parks website See more..

  15. 4.5 Massasauga Provincial Park (49 reviews)
    - One of Ontario's Best Parks
    National Parks
    Massasauga Provincial Park image
Why is it one of Ontario's best parks? Simple: You can't drive to the camp sites. The Massasauga is a huge park carved out of Georgian Bay cottage country, which has pros and cons. The biggest pro is that all the sites are accessible only by water. If you enjoy canoeing, kayaking, or small-craft sailing this is the park for you. If none of that sounds like it's up your alley, read no further. But you'll be missing out on some of the quietest, most expansive camp sites in southern Ontario. Even the crappiest site I've been to in the Massasauga is better than most sites in more developed parks. The Canadian Shield rolls in and out of the water, creating fantastically Byzantine shorelines and random rocky islands covered in white pine, jack pine, red oaks and maples. It is absolutely incredible. The cons: As this is in the middle of cottage country there are a lot of cottages that front on to areas of the park. They're all pretty far from the camp sites (so far as I've seen) but it means that there's a fair deal of boat traffic in the south end of the park. The north end is much more isolated, but there is one mandatory portage - it's pretty minor, though. In the north end you'll really only see other canoers and kayakers, and occasionally a park boat will motor by. But, it's the closest thing I've gotten to feeling the isolation of a northern Ontario campground without having to travel that far. That's it for the cons. If you're in to sailing a small boat like a laser or a snark, definitely try the south end. There are a few straights where you'll have to row, but otherwise the waters are open enough to sail small craft and there's usually decent wind. Definitely get a map of the park ahead of time, book well in advance, and consult the internet about better sites. Some are windier than others, but don't forget: More wind = fewer mosquitoes. - Collection of open areas in suburban Toronto

Collection of connected open areas in suburban Toronto. Good that they are saving some green spaces, but it could be more extensive. Even saving farmland in the area would be useful rather than continual expansion of the city. See more..
