Fort George National Historic Site of Canada image
it was a rainy day in May 2022 when we visited, carrying umbrellas. It is clear that the site management and animators enjoyed their work and intended to provide a fulfilling experience. Our son was happy to watch the black powder drill (twice!). We explored the entire fort in about 2-3 hrs, if I recall correctly, reading the sign boards and talking with the animators. Good discussion in the kitchen, and rolling the powder cartridge papers; the rifleman answered all questions and the officer spoke knowledgeably about the battle history. All of the animators, actually, were happy to chat and answer, regardless that they were normally standing in the rain, kudos! (I think it was May 22/22, but will edit as necessary...) See more..

    CFB Petawawa Military Museum image
In order to visit the Military Museum, you have to present yourself at the gate to the base and show a driver's licence. When we first arrived at the Museum, we explored the outdoor exhibits. I would suggest presenting yourself at the desk first. You will be given a summary sheet of what is displayed outside. The indoor museum was very well done. Different rooms emphasized different themes. It was sobering to read and see how Canadians have been involved in war and peace keeping efforts world wide for decades. I came away with an even greater appreciation for the people of our military. We didn't have any kids with us, but that didn't stop us from trying on military garb. N.B. The hats and helmets were on the rack where shoes should/would be. The rifles were just to the side of the coat rack. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit! See more..

The museum staff were very knowledgeable and exceptionally helpful in our research. I have been planning a trip to France to visit the WW1 cemeteries of 2 relatives and I gained quite a bit of advise that will definitely help. Thanks to each and all, with a special shout out to Greg :) See more..
