    We happened by, entered and was met by Lori (I believe her name was) and she answered so many questions about the building and then called her colleague, Sean (I believe his name was) who gave us detailed background on the building, architecture and history of the area.     Opened in 1856 and built of Queenston limestone, it is the third oldest court house in the province. It was the site of the first Welland County Council meeting. The Palladian style of construction and Ionic columns gave the building an imposing appearance. In addition to housing all the levels of trial courts, a small museum outlines a darker phase re the gallows. The last hanging was in January, 1958.
