  2. 4.5 Martello Alley (386 reviews)
    - Local Artist Haven
    Saturday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Art Galleries
    Martello Alley image
Visit us at 203 B Wellington St., or online 24/7 on our new 360 interactive site. You can find it at menu “Virtual Shop” on our Website. A quirky and fun little art gallery located in an old alley in downtown Kingston Ontario. It is Ontario's only alley art gallery. The indoor gallery is located at the very end of the alley, beside the courtyard. The other "shops" you will see are not really shops at all - they are facades created to make up a little "village". Currently there is a "fleuriste" (flower shop) and a "poissonnerie" (fish shop). In reality these are the back walls of the restaurant next door. The door to the "fleuriste" is not a door at all, and the door to the "poissonnerie" is the back door/delivery to the restaurant. The "lighthouse" and the "buoy", complete with seagull and nest, are there to store and conceal the restaurant's garbage bins and kitchen oil drum. These themed "shops" serve as backdrops for the outdoor art that display in the corresponding themed area. See more..

    - A Unique Experience
Saturday: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM Art Galleries • Parks
The Screaming Heads of Midlothian image
A very interesting place. Is it art? Art is in the eye of the beholder. There is no doubt The Screaming Heads of Midlothian is a memorable experience worth checking out. It is worthy of a 5 star rating. Yes. First off, the owner does not charge an entrance fee. How about that? It is only by donation if you truly want to at the entrance, once you drive into the large site. To get to the site, you drive up a non paved, lonely looking road. This puts you in the right mood for what you are to see. Large concrete objects. Make sure you make your way to the hidden pond and bring a camera. I appreciated the though, time and work that went into making this one of the most unique places in Ontario. A true hidden gem in Ontario. See more..

Group of Seven Outdoor Gallery image
Had SUCH a great time walking around the Huntsville downtown area this afternoon, following the map to find the Group of Seven murals in the Outdoor Gallery. What a fun thing! Kudos to the Town of Huntsville and the people involved with making the murals. They're gorgeous! We enjoyed walking along the backs of the main street, and up alleys, etc. Almost like a treasure hunt! Saw some painting we hadn't seen before so it's a nice learning experience as well and SO Canadiana! This is a must do in my opinion. Popped in to "The Little Place near the Lights" for lunch as it's right on the route but there were numerous other nice shops and restaurants along the way as well. I'd highly recommend this walking tour. Top shelf! See more..

A graduate of the Ontario College of Art, Andrew paints exclusively with molten “encaustic” beeswax, incorporating other mediums. Luminous textures bring the viewer into an organic landscape unlike any other. His masterful paintings move naturally from two dimensions to three, from reality to colourful imagination, often echoing the fluidity of landscapes in The County. His works create a focal point and spark great conversation in one’s home or office. An exciting renaissance of this ancient “encaustic beeswax technique” has been growing with excitement. His sculptural paintings can be seen in his magnificent century-old BARN Gallery and new ANDARA Gallery also located onsite in the heart of Prince Edward County. A visit starts here with the owners warm greeting and so many unique pieces of art that catch your eye. Often it ends with a glass of wine and a discussion of the art and artists in gallery. This is a large gallery , although it does not appear so from the outside. Presentation is accessible given the medium (many ceramic and related) which allows interaction for patrons. The mandate of the Art Gallery of Northumberland is to promote and provide access to art and related programs as a community gallery for the enjoyment and education of the people of Northumberland County. We exist to serve all of Northumberland County as a public gallery. We present intellectually stimulating exhibitions and programming, as well as maintain a permanent collection of visual arts. Along with exhibitions we fulfill our mandate through educational activities which encourage active dialogue between the Gallery audience and the visual arts; including lectures, films, workshops, artist talks and tours. Student educational programs are provided both in the Gallery and in the classroom. Special programs for secondary school students have been developed in collaboration with community schools and teachers. See more..

With covid in the world these days, I have been looking for outdoor activity options and the outdoor gallery here turned up. We enjoyed wandering through it and trying to figure out what each piece was about... amusing to later find the descriptions on a plaque. The indoor gallery was also open, but we opted out to be covid cautious. So it wasn’t a long stop, but something to do besides sit at home in a summer day during a pandemic. See more..
