This space was kept quite clean for the number of people on it, which I appreciated, unlike Paris’s Champ de Mars by the Eiffel Tower. 4.5Micropia(1.485 reviews) - Amazing interactive microbiology museum. Family and disabled friendly for a good price. Can't recommend it enough. Thursday: 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Speciality Museums
Amazing museum, I didn't expect much but I was really taken aback. There were many microscopes and flasks filled with bacteria, very interactive and many unique ways of teaching children (and adults) about microbes. I recommend going there an hour before the daily lab Q&A so you can look at at least most of the first floor exhibitions. It has many videos, so even if you're not really into reading, you will still learn many new things. The visit takes three hours minimum, especially if youre interacting with everything. It is a great way to spend an afternoon with your family. People with advanced knowledge of biology may find it primitive but experiencing and interacting with all the exhibitions makes up for it. For a cheap price (compared to other museums) it is really worth your time and I can't recommend it enoug.See more..

4.5Amsterdam Canal Ring(1.132 reviews) - Quintessential, Bike-Friendly Amsterdam Spent More than 3 hours Neighborhoods • Bridges • Scenic Walking Areas
You just can’t miss the canals of Amsterdam when you visit this renowned global city. Water brings it all to life. As the people here are the savviest cyclists you’ll ever meet (tied with the Danish, perhaps?), bicycles are EVERYWHERE. Unlike the more competitive nature of cycling in the US you’ll find in parks and city streets where folks zip up and down “recklessly,” the bikers here are spatially-aware and patient with pedestrians. I never felt like I was about to crash into a speedy bike. Minus a few spots where the city was doing road/bridge construction work, the area is clean and lively. You won’t be alone anywhere you go—this is obviously the most popular part of Amsterdam. Even with the summer crowds, I felt as safe as could be. Next visit, I’ll spend a bit of money to take a river cruise, which from seeing others’ experiences as they sailed underneath the bridges, looks like an absolute blast.See more..
4.5Frans Hals Museum - Hof(1.119 reviews) - A great museum with lovely staff Thursday: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Art Museums

4.5Sint-Bavokerk (Church of St. Bavo)(1.115 reviews) - Simply breathtaking candlelight service Thursday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites
We visited St Bavo’s for the Easter Vigil service and the whole experience was just amazing. The church was candlelit and the atmosphere was just so peaceful and holy feeling. The service was in Dutch but that hardly mattered as it was so beautiful and the choir with the amazing acoustics made the whole experience just magical. We also visited the church in the daytime later in the week for the official tour as well so we got to experience it in a different way but it couldn’t top the candlelight service experience we had. One downside was that the organ was under construction so we didn’t get to view the massive organ. Also, weirdly, there was a carnival set up outside for kings day celebration for a week so getting pics of the outside is the church was difficult as it had carnival rides in the way! But visiting here for the Easter service was one of the highlights of our trip.See more..
4.0Cheese Factory Volendam(1.111 reviews) - Charlie and the cheese cake factory Thursday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Speciality & Gift Shops

Anyone who opens the museum's heavy door on the bank of the River Spaarne sees at a glance what it is that inspires such enthusiasm. The museum breathes the atmosphere of the 18th and 19th centuries - the Age of the Enlightenment - when people were busily gathering knowledge about the world. Teylers Museum, museum of wonder, is a world in itself, one that you will never forget. Teylers Museum is the best-preserved 18th-century public knowledge institution for the arts and sciences in the world. It has been open to the public since 1784, welcoming all those who are eager to look at paintings and drawings by the Old Masters, magnificent minerals, ingenious scientific instruments, precious books, and centuries-old fossils. The museum's interior alone, with the monumental Oval Room, is a truly remarkable attraction. It is the only authentic 18th-century museum interior in the world. Recently the historical house of founding father Pieter Teyler was added to the museum.See more..
4.5Ecomare(1.067 reviews) - Exhibit on marine wild life and actually animal shelter done with much love and attention Spent 1-2 hours Aquariums
Ecomare is first and foremost an animal rescue center. The fact that the setup of the exhibit is done so well and with so much care is therefore all the more impressive. Outside you can see all the rescue animals such as seals and porpoise but the care that the animal needs is first priority, showing them to the public is second. In order to do that the center has simply made large windows in the crèche areas. The animals that are stronger can stay in the bigger basins outside. One every so often the recovered animals are set back into the wild in the area where they are from. If that means a round trip to the arctic to release a stray, that is the round trip they make.See more..
This is a fantastic, must-see. You do have to book in advance and space is limited for each tour because it is a small house. I failed to get the name of our guide, but she was really great. This story needs to be better known. It is actually known more in America and Canada than in The Netherlands.See more..
4.5Zandvoort aan Zee(931 reviews) - Lovely nudist beach Thursday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Beaches
Went here for the first time mainly for the beach. Even though it was late in the season, I did manage to get 4 days out of 8 on the beach,at least for part of the day. The beach is super clean with plenty of space. The pavilions were all closing down for the winter and only Havana at the start and Fosfor, the furthest one, were still open. I was surprised how many people were on the nudist part, some of them even in the water, but it was good to have some freedom after all the travel restrictions over the last couple of years.See more..

4.0Cheese Market(764 reviews) - Great fun Temporarily closed - Closed until further notice Flea & Street Markets
If you are visiting Alkmaar on a Friday over the summer, you will inevitably end up at the cheese market where men in traditional costumes inspect the large wheels of gouda, then carry them on barrows to be weighed. Yes it's touristy, but it's also great fun and interesting to watch and a marvellous way of keeping traditions alive. While the men are carrying the cheese, the girls walk up and down the crown selling bags of cheese, 10 euros for a reusable bag, a pencil case and 3 generous chunks of mild, mature and extra mature gouda, significantly cheaper than the nearby cheese van. Even in September the crowds were 3-4 people deep, but they rotate quickly as people move on. Around the market are plenty of stalls selling souvenirs and traditional Dutch snacks and don't forget to explore the rest of this pretty town.See more..

4.5Marina Volendam(676 reviews) - Beautiful fishing village Spent More than 3 hours Marinas
We made the right choice by visiting Volendam. It was about 30 mins ride by bus from Amsterdam centraal station. Very easy to take the bus. We took the bus 316 and stop at the center of Volendam. And then we walked about 10 mins to reach the Marina. The seascape view of the Marina was stunning. The sky suddenly became clear and we got the sun. The place became commercial right now having the mixed between gift shops and cafe and restaurants. We just tried out the fresh seafood that was sold at the road side. The fried cod fish was really impressive especially the cold winter. I would highly recommend to try it if you are there. You won't be regretted. We slowly move our pave through the street from one side to the other side while enjoying the fantastic view. Stopped for a cup of coffee and snack was one of the thing we did during our visited in Marina Volendam.See more..
Fascinating educational tour of this historic windmill and of windmills’ role in Dutch history and development. We were the only ones on our tour, and our volunteer guide was incredibly knowledgeable, demonstrating using small models how different types of windmills worked and how they were reworked depending on what needed to be milled. It was awesome to see the huge sails and to learn about how the miller had to climb them to set the sails to catch the wind, and how the sail positions were used as messaging for the miller and community. Very worthwhile, especially for only 7.5 Euros each!See more..
