Exhibit on marine wild life and actually animal shelter done with much love and attention

Ecomare is first and foremost an animal rescue center. The fact that the setup of the exhibit is done so well and with so much care is therefore all the more impressive. Outside you can see all the rescue animals such as seals and porpoise but the care that the animal needs is first priority, showing them to the public is second. In order to do that the center has simply made large windows in the crèche areas. The animals that are stronger can stay in the bigger basins outside. One every so often the recovered animals are set back into the wild in the area where they are from. If that means a round trip to the arctic to release a stray, that is the round trip they make.

A great educational trip with kids
A great and educational place to go with young kids. You can learn about the wildlife and the history in the Nord Sea. There are a lot of different sea lions and there were also baby seals in the nursery. Also, there is a little underwater world with fish and other animals that live in the North Sea my son was not impressed by it most of the water was empty with no fish. If like you can also take a little walk in the nature of texel, its super peaceful for kids there are some activities.

    Don't skip the feeding times!
My partner and I visited Ecomare after having done a seal boat tour (by which we were gravely disappointed, but that's another story), and although we only had 1,5 hour to spend there before closing time, we were very impressed. The aquarium is a bit dated, but both the exhibition on plastic etc. and the whale room were excellent. I would have loved more information on their rescue missions though. The absolute highlight however were the feeding times, where we could actually see the seals and their personalities, and talked to one of the zoo keepers, which we enjoyed immensely. Be sure to stay a little bit after all the outside animals have been fed and position yourself in front of the window at the sanctuary, where the weakes seals are taken care of. You can see real behind-the-scenes action there.
