After meeting Jasper, one of the family members, at a retailer in De Koog we visited the brewery in Den Burg. We were received by Marinka, hoe twin sister. Since we were the only people at the moment she introduced the brewery to us, told us the history and gave information about the beers when she served the taste glasses. Since it was a Thursday, no tour was planned. But when a group Germans arrived her father did a tour which we joined. All was done in a very enthusiastic way, with passion for the process, the ingredients and the product. It turned out to be a very educational and entertaining afternoon with the family Diks, who are so enthusiatic about their tasteful beers. See more..

Wir kamen ohne große Erwartungen zur Galerie und waren vollkommen begeistert von diesem Ort! Schon die Rapa Nui Skulptur im Vorgarten übt große Faszination aus. Die Galerie mit den Arbeiten des sehr freundlichen Künstlerpaares ist eine wahre Augenweide! Hier zeigt sich einmal mehr, dass Kunst eben doch von Können kommt. Auch der kleine Garten ist ein Traum, bestückt mit den Skulpturen der Künstlerin wirkt er ein wenig wie ein Märchenland.

Ecomare is first and foremost an animal rescue center. The fact that the setup of the exhibit is done so well and with so much care is therefore all the more impressive. Outside you can see all the rescue animals such as seals and porpoise but the care that the animal needs is first priority, showing them to the public is second. In order to do that the center has simply made large windows in the crèche areas. The animals that are stronger can stay in the bigger basins outside. One every so often the recovered animals are set back into the wild in the area where they are from. If that means a round trip to the arctic to release a stray, that is the round trip they make. So many shipwrecks from such a small island! Many of the pieces of wreckage or flotsam accompanied by photos or news clippings. And for those whose attention wanders after a few minutes of printed words (think teenage boys), there are strategically places games to play all the way around and a large play area at the end. There is so much to see that it is actually a bit overwhelming - I think it's the kind of place one needs to visit a few times to absorb most of it (entrance is pretty reasonable for the level of entertainment/enjoyment). There's a café serving snacks - we didn't try anything because we were still very full from lunch at Restaurant Worsteltent just a few minutes cycling away. I will definitely be back - so will the children who exclaimed "why do the Netherlands have such great museums?!" See more..

If you are lucky to see the shepherd demonstration, as we were, you're going to have a great time! The presentation and explanation is fun, entertaining, educational and fascinating to watch. Very well prepared. The dogs are amazing at herding the sheep, and we got to see them being brought out and back multiple times. Around the farm, there are lovely animals everywhere, and you can come close and touch all of them. Chickens, goats, sheep, pigs, bunnies, guinea pigs, donkeys and ponies. Very beautiful place to stay closer to nature. There are walking paths through the dunes and those will take you to different landscapes. The wind here can be so strong and as a result it will be so cold. You don't see big trees here although it is a national park, mostly small bushes and sand dunes. But the views are amazing. We genieten van wandelingen en natuur, nou dat is er volop op Texel. In februari wanneer het nog rustig is kun je volop genieten.
De afstanden zijn wat groter, maar bij goed weer per fiets net te doen, bij harde wind of regen kies ik de auto, alles is goed bereikbaar en onderhouden... even opletten waar het betaald parkeren is dat wel...

While we were on the Dutch barrier island of Texel, we thought we'd at least take a look at the local history museum. Often these places are a mishmash of local artifacts without much context. But we were very pleasantly surprised at the cultural history museum on Texel. It's not a slick professionally-groomed place, but also far more than a "just a collection of stuff." A homespun happy middle ground that provided context about the rural life on Texel a hundred years ago, particularly through videos. We spent much more time there than we had planned. See more..

Piccola chiesa senza troppe pretese ha però un campanile da cui, in particolari condizioni di luce e visibilità si vede fino alla costa. Salire costa solo due euro a persona, ma vale la pena. Scale molto ripide (per chi soffre di vertigini consigliata la discesa all'indietro) ma panorama notevole. Occhio all'orologio, le campane battono ore e mezze ore ed è bene non trovarsi nella stessa stanza quando suonano. Particolare anche il meccanismo dell'orologio, fa vedere. See more..

Chronologically: 1415 is the year of the construction of this church, which was the most important place of worship for Texel fishermen (De Koog was a fishing village at that time). During the 80’s years war, 16 th century and after the storm the church was destructed. The year 1719 is engraved in the wall of this church as this is probably when the renovation of it took place. Nowadays, this Church is very much well taken care of and worth the admiration as well as a visit if you are lucky to be in the time frame when it’s open as we were less lucky. See more..

Again you have not failed to impress. Today I arrived late for the birds of prey show, but went in to view the changes made since I was here last year. Added a few more different attractions, which were set out and housed very well. Always makes me smile to walk around your tropical area and have the birds flying past me.
