History of jew resilience
This very well preserved synagogue is certainly worth a visit. It is one of the biggest synagogues built by the jews fleeing from Portugal during the sixteenth century. We may admire the huge stone columns supporting the very high ceiling. In the basement the visitor may see a short film with the history of the sephardite jews as well as several cult objects, many of the centuries old. There are audio guides and a well done flyer.

A great learning experience
I’m so glad my friend recommended this place as it had a great audio guide with fantastic information (very entertaining). We spent 1 hour there and then visited the Jewish Historical museum which is free once you pay for the this. Would recommend 100%. Also good to go with children/ teenagers.

Huge synagogue!
When the Portugese jewish community built this synagogue, it was the largest in the world at it's time. See the movie of their history and visit the synagogue but beware- they close early and don't warn you about it. Audioguide included, as so many places in Amsterdam.
