Worth a visit
It's a relatively small and old zoo, but the space given to the animals seem adequate and they are expanding, with construction works well underway, so it'll probably improve in the near future. I particularly liked the exotic birds, some of them allowed to fly relatively free inside a pavilion and also the lemurs, one of them stretching in a funny way I have never seen before. The elephants looked fine, too in their large enclosure inclusive of a pond and so did the giraffes. I also liked the penguins. There was also a surprisingly large number of vultures eyeing the visitors with glee. We visited on a Monday, so the place was crowded with - very noisy - children and elderly people, but still with enough space not to feel crowded. There's also a Planetarium but for what we saw, the show is targeted to children.

Good little zoo in the suburbs of Amsterdam - reasonably priced.
A lovely little zoo right in the middle of the suburbs of Amsterdam. Lots of different animals to see. Many of them close up. We went on quite a full day which was great as loads of the animals were out and about and being much more energetic. The layout is slightly confusing as lots of different paths in twists and turns (which made it difficult to work out if we had seen everything!!) Some animals and birds had huge enclosures with lots of space (elephants, giraffes, monkeys, birds, penguins etc) It was great to see the lions, cheetah and puma quite close up but they did seem to be “pacing” and had quite small enclosures for the size of them. I would have expected them to have much much bigger areas. I thought it was brilliant though that you could climb up and see some of the enclosures from different perspectives (puma and cheetah) - make sure you climb up the rocky pathway! Also the seals can be viewed underneath so make sure you go as it’s amazing!
