A great museum with lovely staff

The Frans Hals Museum and De Hallen Haarlem came together to form the renewed Frans Hals Museum: one museum at two locations. Where old meets new. Historical works hang alongside contemporary installations, and the Golden Age sits alongside the modern day. The meeting of Old Masters and contemporary art lets you look in a different way and see more.

    A Dutch Treat In Haarlem
In late November,I was in Haarlem,an attractive Dutch city that features the Groote Kerk,a huge Dutch Reformed Church,After exploring the Groote Kerk,I segued over to the nearby Frans Hals Art Museum. At the Frans Hals Art Museum, many of the outstanding paintings were done by Dutch Masters associated with Haarlem such as;Cornelis Van Haarlem,Frans Hals,Hendrick Goltzius,Gerrit Berckheyde,Hendrick Pot and Jan Steen.Favorites of mine that day were Hendrick Goltzius'"Minerva",Adriean Brouwer's"Country Folk Playing Cards",Job Berckheyde's"Interior of Church of Saint Anne's",Frans Hals'"Fisherboys",Johannes Versponck's"Regentesses of Saint Elizabeth's",Frans Hals'"Banquet of Officers of Civil Guard",Gerrit Berckheyde's"Great Market in Haarlem With Groote Kerk",Frans Post's"Brazilian Landscape",and 20th Century Painter,Gustave de Smet's"Evening on Lake". The Frans Hals Art Museum is truly a Ditch Treat and a wonderful place to study 17th Century Dutch Art in a cozy atmosphere. It is open from 11 AM to 5 PM from Tuesday through Sunday.

Well laid out museum for art lovers
Frans Hals painted large groups of important people, the photographer of his day if you will, and did an amazing job of portraying his subjects. This museum is a tribute to that along with other works by Hals and other painters, and juxtapositioned in there are some modern paintings that create interest. Very unusual. Relatively small overall so easy to fit into your Haarlem itinerary.
