Very beautiful place to stay closer to nature. There are walking paths through the dunes and those will take you to different landscapes. The wind here can be so strong and as a result it will be so cold. You don't see big trees here although it is a national park, mostly small bushes and sand dunes. But the views are amazing. Had a great day on the lake, boating with former colleagues. Watching planes go to and from Schiphol. The Westeinderplassen actually is the biggest body of inland water in the Netherlands. This is the first nature reserve in the Nehterlands. It's quite a big lake area with reed, hay meadow and swamp forest. A popular place for water birds such as cormorants, purple herons, many kind of geese and other water birds. It's also a popular place for hikers. This site is located next to the Tata steel factory, and probably that was also the sponsor of this sulpture park. Most of the artwork are abstract. It's quite nice to see, also up close but you need to walk on the sand and it was not always easy. There is a good path for the wheelchair so you can see it from a distance. It is quite special. The view from there is spelbinding with the waves beating onto the beach, the forever blowing wind in your face and the endless beach from Petten to as far as the eye can see and then of course the North Sea with its low lying and moving clouds. This lovely polder is about a 15 minute walk from my house and very close to the Amstel River. If you want a nice walk or bike ride it is easily accessible from public transportation, specifically line 51/5. I suggest getting off at Uilenstede and walking down Kalvjeslaan until you hit the river. On the left you can take photos at the windmill and then around and you’ll see the cafe on the river for a coffee or light lunch. Then take a right out of the cafe and walk down to the polder. Take another right where you see signs for the middenpolder and walk back on machineweg past the water treatment plant and back to the metro stop at Zonnestein. All said and done it is about 5 miles (8km). I highly recommend going on a sunny day...it is normally very windy on the polder! See more..

It was used to be estates, Bosbeek - Groenendal long time ago. The part of Groenendal is open for public as a walking area or recreation area. It's quite big and green. There are different walking routes such as red, yellow, blue, Cultural-historical and countryside path. The yellow one is also for unleash dog. So be carreful when you take this shortest route (1,5 km) as you can step on dog poo. There is also a monument of 1940-1945 and a jewish monument. The Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen is an area of dunes where in the 1800 canals were carved to extract fresh water to supply Amsterdam. The area is protected and is covered by forest with deer, foxes, hares and lots of birds. The area is big and there many trails for walkers and riders. The paths are not difficult and some of them even allow for wheelchairs. There is even a wooden decked path to reach the visitor's centre hosted in a old pumping station (see photos). Buitenplaats (estate) Leyduin is one of many estates in this area. It's free to take a walk in this estate. It has varied walking area, an open area with grass and a good path even for wheelchair or a nature path in the woody area. We like this place most because of the big parking place with an information centre and not crowded. The Westerheide is a heathland area on the territory of Hilversum and Laren. It's a piece of nature, located on the edge of Laren. It was almost nobody else walking in the area. We walked inside the fence where you can probably find grazers such as cattle, sheep or goats. But we didn't see them as it was a sunny beautiful day and quite warm.
