If you are lucky to see the shepherd demonstration, as we were, you're going to have a great time! The presentation and explanation is fun, entertaining, educational and fascinating to watch. Very well prepared. The dogs are amazing at herding the sheep, and we got to see them being brought out and back multiple times. Around the farm, there are lovely animals everywhere, and you can come close and touch all of them. Chickens, goats, sheep, pigs, bunnies, guinea pigs, donkeys and ponies. This is a wonderful local place. Easy parking or accessible by bicycle. Chickens to see, and open goat farm, and sheep in a pen. Also a good and safe play area with a sandpit. Met vrienden een rondje varen vanuit Grootebroek door de prachtige omgeving en onderweg kom je langs de Schapenstreek. Aanleggen en even een ijsje eten. Wat zeg ik: IJS eten. IJs gemaakt met schapenmelk en lekker dat dit is. Overheerlijk IJS!!! Cocos met chocolade, heerlijk. Man wat is het jammer dat dit zo ver van ons huis is. Verder overheerlijke Bramenbeleg (slechts 20% suiker toegevoegd en mag geen jam heten) gekocht. Daarnaast is er natuurlijk ook schapenkaas te koop.

We visited this farm as part of our Countryside and Windmill Tour with That Dam Guide. It is a mixed farm where cows are milked daily and where wheat, sugar beets, corn, potatoes and tulip bulbs are grown. where there are dairy cows and fields for growing tulip bulbs. We watched the tulip bulb process and the machine milking of the cows. The farmhouse was built in 1858 to care for poor elderly farmhands. Today the home has apartments for rent. Nicolaashoeve is located in De Beemster polder (a piece of low-lying land reclaimed from the sea or a river and protected by dikes).
