The Royal Palace Amsterdam is in use by the Dutch Royal House. Most of the year, the Royal Palace is alsof open for visitors. You are welcome to discover the rich history and interior of this magnificent building in the heart of Amsterdam. Visitors are welcome to discover the building's rich past and legacies left by it's successive occupants - as Amsterdam's Town Hall for 150 years, the French Royal and Imperial Palace for 5 years and the Palace of the House of Orange for the past two centuries. The Royal Palace was built in the seventeenth century as the Town Hall of Amsterdam, after a design by Jacob van Campen. It's paintings and sculptures were made by some of the most distinguished artists of the time and allude to the city's influence and prosperity in the Dutch Golden Age. In 1808 Louis Napoleon, brother of the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, became King of Holland and converted the Town Hall into a Palace. The superb collection of Empire furniture, clocks and chandeliers date from that period. The collection of Empire furniture is one of the best preserved and most complete collections in the world. The rooms in the Palace are decorated with artworks from the collection of the House of Orange-Nassau Historic Collections Trust. Many paintings show the various members of the family of Orange-NassauSee more..
4.5Portuguese Synagogue(1.473 reviews)from $18.20 - History of jew resilience Thursday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites
This very well preserved synagogue is certainly worth a visit. It is one of the biggest synagogues built by the jews fleeing from Portugal during the sixteenth century. We may admire the huge stone columns supporting the very high ceiling. In the basement the visitor may see a short film with the history of the sephardite jews as well as several cult objects, many of the centuries old. There are audio guides and a well done flyer. Fascinating educational tour of this historic windmill and of windmills’ role in Dutch history and development. We were the only ones on our tour, and our volunteer guide was incredibly knowledgeable, demonstrating using small models how different types of windmills worked and how they were reworked depending on what needed to be milled. It was awesome to see the huge sails and to learn about how the miller had to climb them to set the sails to catch the wind, and how the sail positions were used as messaging for the miller and community. Very worthwhile, especially for only 7.5 Euros each!See more..
The first railways in the Netherlands were built from Amsterdam to Haarlem. As a result a nice old station was built and I am glad to see that it is still in place to this day. Although it is a traditional station there are modern facilities including lifts to all the platforms for those that need it. There is a nice shop on the central platforms that sells gifts and food and drink as well. You can get trains from here to Amsterdam, Den Helder, Utrecht, Den Haag, Rotterdam, Vlissingen and the local area. Staff I met were all friendly, polite and professional. If you admire railway architecture then this train is worth checking out.See more..

Fifty years ago this market place was active with cows etc every Tuesday. Things have changed and such open animal markets are no longer allowed. The Market place has kept remnants of the old stalls, built some bronze cattle statues and remains surrounded by the old cafes. A great place to visitSee more..

4.5Hoofdtoren Hoorn uit 1532-1534(33 reviews) - Worth making sure you visit. Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • Castles
The restaurant/cafe was unfortunately closed at the hour that I was there, but I really enjoyed the building. It is indeed a focal point of the harbor, and I hung around enjoying the views and the people- and boat-watching, protected by the unicorn. The statue(s) of the 3 boys is adjacent.See more..
The "Accijnstoren" (Accijns = tax, excise) is where merchants, in the old days, paid their taxes on goods brought into a city, in this case by ship. All goods had to be offloaded at this point. Towers like this were once very prevalent. This one dates back to 1622. It's interesting that the whole tower was moved 12 feet (4 meters) in 1924 to widen the street it's on (Bierkade). It really makes a nice picture. You can go inside. We didn't though.See more..

A really croocked building. The inside is small but historical. The information is interesting, the old floors and cells are well preserved.. It's sometimes a bit creepy, and croocked. When you turn to fast in a cell you can get seasick of it. But it's amazing to see, would really recommend visiting this when you can. Entry fee is really cheap, a bit to cheap I would say... would pay more for it.See more..
4.0Stadhuis van Enkhuizen uit 1688(14 reviews) - Candide et Constanter (Honest and Steadfast) Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings
Square building that looks a bit like a smaller version of the palace on Dam square in Amsterdam. Vellekoop, the architect was the son of a partner of the famous Jacob van Kampen. One can tell that it is from a period -late 17th century- when the heydays of Enkhuizen are over (only the facade is nicely ornamented). Still, a monumental building worth having a look at.See more..

4.0Johanneskerk uit 1521(13 reviews) - Church for Event Spent < 1 hour Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
The church building of 1521 is old but inside, the seats are modern. Probably only the carillon, the statue on the wall and the pulpit are old. Someone in the church told us about the date of the building. The dedication date of the church is accurately known, as it is stated on the beam in the triumphal arch, now directly above the pulpit. There it says: “Dies Lambertus 1521”.“Consecrated on Saint Lambert 1521” and also known who the builder was, Mr Lubbertus, a local builder. The summer concert agenda booklet is ready in the church.See more..

See more..

A Dutch Reformed Church in the village of De Rijp in the municipality of Graft-De Rijp, North Holland province. This late-Gothic church is where the Christian worship and other religious meetings are held. A church is also called House of prayer, prayer house, God's house or temple. This was built in the period 1538 to 1529. The village fire of 1654 engulfed the Church largely in flames. The Church was thereafter rebuilt. Many prominent donors made this church interior awesome like the stained glass windows, the pulpit, the baptism garden, the organ and the ship model hanged up high. Next to the church is the statue of the 17th-century sailor Jan Janszoon Weltevree (in Korea Pak Yon) from De Rij. He was in Korea was captured and brought to the Advisor of the emperor. A copy of this statue is in Seoul (South Korea).See more..
See more..
Ornate plasterwork, guilded woodwork and large fireplaces reflect the atmosphere in Monnickendam’s old town hall.
