Beautiful old town, perfect for a quick stroll
Edam, well known for its Edammer Cheese, is a beautiful small town close to Volendam and Marken and worth a visit. he name Edam originates from a dam on the little river E or IJe where the first settlement was located and which was therefore called IJedam. Count Willem V of Holland granted Edam rights as a borough in 1357.

A very beautiful townsquare
The town of Edam is very beautiful, small but neat. The Damplein is the main square, constructed on the canal and with the main hotel and Town hall / Museum / Info Office. A nice walk in the area is very relaxing.

The Centre of Edam
Damplein is the town square of Edam. One part in the front of the former post office is used as a terrace of the hotel nearby. The other side is the square of the former town hall ( now a museum ) and the visitor centre is used as a parking place of the bicycles. Damplein is the most crowded place in Edam
