    The Panorama Terrace image
We had over 7hrs to kill before our flight so scoured the airport for things to do, we stumbled upon the Panorama Terrace. It was brilliant a huge space that even had an empty disused aircraft for you to board and look around. It was very windy and cold there but would imagine in the summer would be a lovely place to sit and watch the daily goings on of the airport. They are doing works to this area and when these are complete the place will be a great place to visit. They are building a new bar and restaurant which will be a great place to chill in the summer. There are picnic tables and seating areas so you can bring your own food or takeaway food from the airport outlets. I wish we still had something like this at our local airport in the UK, its great place to kill time. See more..

    Vlietermonument image
This impressive statue of Cornelis Lely, a Dutch Politician and Engineer who was the brains trust for the Afsluitdijk, spent years (from around 1886) trying to convince the Dutch parliament that the works were needed to prevent flooding. His plans were only approved in 1916 after a major flood occured in the Zuiderzee. The statue was sculpted by Marie Andriessen and dedicated on 23 September 1954, the 100th anniversary of of his birth (23 September 1854). It was great to stop and appreciate the work and effort that Cornelis Lely put into the development and the project managing of the very impressive dyke. Unfortunately, he died in 1929, three years before the construction was complete. See more..
