3.5Een Zee van Staal(31 reviews) - Sculptures Park in The Dunes Spent 1-2 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Monuments & Statues
This site is located next to the Tata steel factory, and probably that was also the sponsor of this sulpture park. Most of the artwork are abstract. It's quite nice to see, also up close but you need to walk on the sand and it was not always easy. There is a good path for the wheelchair so you can see it from a distance. It is quite special. It is open 24/7.See more..
The artwork (The Wave) is also a sofa. To muse, to meet and to remember the power of water. ‘Collaboration’, ‘solidarity’ and ‘victory’ together with the sad side of the disaster; ‘the cry’, ‘despair’ but also ‘the helping hand’ are coming together in The Wave. This memorial has the shape of a boat, and thus symbolically incorporated the significance of Noah’s Ark.See more..

This impressive statue of Cornelis Lely, a Dutch Politician and Engineer who was the brains trust for the Afsluitdijk, spent years (from around 1886) trying to convince the Dutch parliament that the works were needed to prevent flooding. His plans were only approved in 1916 after a major flood occured in the Zuiderzee. The statue was sculpted by Marie Andriessen and dedicated on 23 September 1954, the 100th anniversary of of his birth (23 September 1854). It was great to stop and appreciate the work and effort that Cornelis Lely put into the development and the project managing of the very impressive dyke. Unfortunately, he died in 1929, three years before the construction was complete.See more..

4.0Standbeeld Hans Brinker IJdijk Spaarndam(4 reviews) - Part of your Spaarndam itinerary Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Historic Walking Areas • Monuments & Statues
I live locally and almost take this for granted but this statue of the boy with his finger in the dyke represents the struggle against water which is part of everyday life in this polder village. This is a great stop on a good walk around the village, do take in the Stompe Toren, de Oude Kerk as well. In fact, there is a lot of history to explore in this old village. The status is in a picturesque spot and around the corner on the little harbour there are two nice places for eating and drinking: Restaurant de Kolk and Cafe Spaarndam.See more..
Elly Baltus, the artist who made this statue used all recycles materials she could find to built the figure of Jan Jansz.Weltevree. As a sailor from De Rijp, who stranded on Korean coast in 1626, became an advisor of the Emperor and died in Korea and commonly known as Pak Yon (master Jan), the artist didn't have any clue how to make that statue as she didn't have any picture of him. What she knew that Jan Jansz. was an expert on weapons. Finally she could make a statue using all her imagination, a figure of a man in korean clothes with all things she could use such as cameras, toy-car, radios, a ship's pulley and sail, Japanese umbrellas, rifles and various trade items from the past and present. She gave the viewers a hint to be able to visualize his life themselves. This statue is located next to the "Grote Kerk"See more..

The one and only concert of the Beatles in the Netherlands in 1964 was in Blokker, a small village in the northwest Netherlands, in the province of North Holland and the region of West Friesland. The Beatles Foundation in Blokker decided to keep the memory alive by making a monument of the Beatles. The monument is in the color of the 60's, with the sketch of Paul, John, George and Jimmie Nicol ( Ringgo Starr was sick ) and also a play list on one side of it. We saw this monument by chance when we turned right from "Zuiderdracht" street to "Oosterblokker" street. It's located exactly on that corner and It's a very busy T junction. The parking place of the care centre is just 2 minutes walk from the monument. It is the Proud of Blokker and nice to see it even if you're not a fans.See more..

3.5Nationaal Monument Reddingswezen(2 reviews) - Revealing how the Dutch political elite anno 1934 managed monuments Monuments & Statues
It is 1928, Dorus Rijkers from Den Helder responsible for rescuing altogether more than 500 sailors (and other castaways) dies at the age of 81. A man of simple background who emerged to become a people' s hero, because of his deeds risking his own life to save others out of wreckage and rough seas over a period of 25 years. The people wanted to honour him. See how the Dutch political elite at the time handled the situation. In 1935 Wilhelmina (queen) inaugurated a buste of her late husband Hendrik (patron of the national rescue service) in front of the structure you see today. The three most important bells of the carillon in the upper part of the monument are named after Wilhelmina, Hendrik and their daughter Juliana. These people never rescued anybody, but they and their entourage used the occasion to promote themselves. Note the artists responsible for the design and artistic form of the monument did depict the heroes of the seas on the reliefs. Dorus Rijkers eventually got his monument, a bronze bust in 1939.See more..

3.0Banpaal Obdam-Hensbroek(1 review) - Opgeknapte oude banpaal. Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
See more..
