4.5Museum Quarter(4.729 reviews) - A Haven for Education and Discovery Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Museum Quarter is the place to be to learn and discover in the Netherlands’s capital city. One shouldn’t rush their time here. You have the jaw-dropping Rijksmuseum and the beloved Van Gogh Museum, some other smaller curations, and one massive green space for the community to embrace. This space was kept quite clean for the number of people on it, which I appreciated, unlike Paris’s Champ de Mars by the Eiffel Tower. It’s certainly challenging to miss, and obviously crucial NOT to miss, when in Amsterdam. I can’t wait to go back in the future!See more..
The Royal Palace Amsterdam is in use by the Dutch Royal House. Most of the year, the Royal Palace is alsof open for visitors. You are welcome to discover the rich history and interior of this magnificent building in the heart of Amsterdam. Visitors are welcome to discover the building's rich past and legacies left by it's successive occupants - as Amsterdam's Town Hall for 150 years, the French Royal and Imperial Palace for 5 years and the Palace of the House of Orange for the past two centuries. The Royal Palace was built in the seventeenth century as the Town Hall of Amsterdam, after a design by Jacob van Campen. It's paintings and sculptures were made by some of the most distinguished artists of the time and allude to the city's influence and prosperity in the Dutch Golden Age. In 1808 Louis Napoleon, brother of the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, became King of Holland and converted the Town Hall into a Palace. The superb collection of Empire furniture, clocks and chandeliers date from that period. The collection of Empire furniture is one of the best preserved and most complete collections in the world. The rooms in the Palace are decorated with artworks from the collection of the House of Orange-Nassau Historic Collections Trust. Many paintings show the various members of the family of Orange-NassauSee more..
4.5Sint-Bavokerk (Church of St. Bavo)(1.115 reviews) - Simply breathtaking candlelight service Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites
We visited St Bavo’s for the Easter Vigil service and the whole experience was just amazing. The church was candlelit and the atmosphere was just so peaceful and holy feeling. The service was in Dutch but that hardly mattered as it was so beautiful and the choir with the amazing acoustics made the whole experience just magical. We also visited the church in the daytime later in the week for the official tour as well so we got to experience it in a different way but it couldn’t top the candlelight service experience we had. One downside was that the organ was under construction so we didn’t get to view the massive organ. Also, weirdly, there was a carnival set up outside for kings day celebration for a week so getting pics of the outside is the church was difficult as it had carnival rides in the way! But visiting here for the Easter service was one of the highlights of our trip.See more..

4.5Grote Sint Laurenskerk(253 reviews) - An old Church along side Canal in Alkmaar Points of Interest & Landmarks
This is a hidden gem amongst canal, boat rides and Cheese Museum. Very Antique (500 years plus) church. Excellent Architecture, with Gothic Arches and Stained glass windows. Still with regular masses at specific times (English and Dutch) for local and visiting Christians. Many tourists do not know it and stop with Kass Museum and this is right beneath.See more..
4.0The Panorama Terrace(222 reviews) - Amazing and huge space Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lookouts • Observation Decks & Towers
We had over 7hrs to kill before our flight so scoured the airport for things to do, we stumbled upon the Panorama Terrace. It was brilliant a huge space that even had an empty disused aircraft for you to board and look around. It was very windy and cold there but would imagine in the summer would be a lovely place to sit and watch the daily goings on of the airport. They are doing works to this area and when these are complete the place will be a great place to visit. They are building a new bar and restaurant which will be a great place to chill in the summer. There are picnic tables and seating areas so you can bring your own food or takeaway food from the airport outlets. I wish we still had something like this at our local airport in the UK, its great place to kill time. See more..

3.5Amsterdamse Poort(142 reviews) - Pretty cool vestige of Haarlem's past Points of Interest & Landmarks
Certainly worth a visit if you're in the area, but not a reason to go to Haarlem (fortunately there are plenty of other reasons to go to Haarlem). It is a great representation of what the walls of Haarlem used to be and just how tall they were. You can walk under the gate, but that's about it (it appears that someone may actually live in the tower... but there are no tours that I know of). See more..

4.5Schermer Mills(22 reviews) - Great windmills in the middle of nowhere!! Points of Interest & Landmarks
One can't visit The Netherlands without visiting a windmill. Water management is so ingrained in the history of the country (and literally made the country) that to pass up a visit to a windmill is passing up what makes The Netherlands tick. The Schermer Mills are really amazing to see in action and provide an excellent history of how water management worked (and still works) 300 years ago. Not only are the windmills majestic and beautiful, but they serve such a practice purpose in the country. While not particular close to anything, the Schermer Mills are a must see when in The Netherlands.See more..
The Netherlands are famous for its wooden shoes, and deservedly so: back in 1800, almost everybody owned a pair (or two). Nowadays only around 200.000 Dutchmen and Dutchwomen wear them daily. Their clogs are no longer handmade, machines have taken over. The production process is a bit like making a spare key: the machine traces the outlines of a clog mould and then carves away the excess wood in a fresh block of poplar. In the Wooden shoe factory you can see how this is done. A movie shows you the old manufacturing process and at regular times, the clog maker is there, in his workshop. Wooden shoes are also part of the traditional Volendam costume. In a small exhibit we explain the dress and its many different layers. The workshop is situated on the second floor of the Wooden shoe factory. Free entry!See more..

Most of the reviews are not about "De Jonge Dirk" windmill but about the windmills in Zaanse Schans. De Jong Dirk is located way outside the village Zaanse Schans. You can reach this windmill only by boat as it's located on a place surrounded by water. We've just visited the paper windmill and tried to get to this windmill as it's located not far from the paper windmill but it's impossible to get there. So only took some pictures and drove further to the next destinationSee more..

Trompenburgh is a 17th-century summer residence of Admiral Cornelis Tromp, one of the naval heroes of the Dutch Republic in 's-Graveland. It is a special building from the Golden Age because of the construction and it was built from wood on bricks. The house with an octagonal dome at the back side has great historical value because as well the ceiling as the interior was painted beautifully. And this octagonal room is the most beautiful part of the house. The weathervane was gilded. We came here during the open monument day in september. After this day, it would be closed for a couple years for renovation.See more..
