I am a volunteer in this Castle. So yes it is very important to me. The castle is very old. But great fun for adults and children. There is a hunt for the kids and in the summer season is always an exhibition. Also, there is often a falconer with birds of prey and owls. You can also attend a workshop with him. In short, there is plenty to do in Castle Radbout. See more..

    Wester-Amstel image
Wester-Amstel: Country House and Park Since 1662 is a piece of serenity located just a bike ride away from Amsterdam. It's located on the banks of the Amstel River and at the last river bend before Ouderkerk. Wester-Amstel is the perfect destination to escape the city and venture into the surrounding countryside. Our house, park, and gardens are enriched by four centuries of history. We highly recommend our audio tour (available in English and Dutch). It will take you on a wonderful stroll through our estate and entertain you with stories of times long past. The benches and picnic spots will give you the perfect excuse to just sit back and relax. The restaurant/cafe was unfortunately closed at the hour that I was there, but I really enjoyed the building. It is indeed a focal point of the harbor, and I hung around enjoying the views and the people- and boat-watching, protected by the unicorn. The statue(s) of the 3 boys is adjacent. See more..
  6. 4.0 Slot op den Hoef (17 reviews)
    - A must visit for those interested in history

    Slot op den Hoef image
The remains of what was once the largest and most beautiful castle of Holland (note: NOT the Netherlands) were excavated in the 1930s and can be visited for free. The foun dations can be walked upon and that will give you a good idea of the sheer size of the structure, that originates from the 15th century. The Lords of Egmont played a very important part in the foundation of what is now known as the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Excellent stuff, if you're interested in history! See more..
  7. 3.5 Rijksmonument Fort de Schans Oudeschild Texel uit 1574 (14 reviews)
    - Interesting place for a wander

Rijksmonument Fort de Schans Oudeschild Texel uit 1574 image
This fort isn’t very well publicised but is worth a stop if you are in the area. The entrance is off Schansweg, where there is a small parking area and an information board ( in Dutch, German and English). The fort is free to visit during daylight hours. There is not much to see; a few brick entrances, the outline of the walls and a cannon, but there are good views over the countryside. We spent about 30 minutes there in total. See more..

Geschiedenis van Schagen leuk eens te weten wat er op en rond Schagen heeft afgespeeld . De slag bij de somme in Frankrijk was mij tot nu toe niet bekend, leuk om wat meer informatie op te doen uit die tijd.
