This modern cinema/theatre building has an interesting design. According to information, when it was renovated in 1998-2003, the design was by a Dutch cartoonist, assisted by the architecture firm Mecanoo. No wonder it looks fun and lively outside. Because I wanted to see a film I had missed back home there, so I went and discovered this lovely place. The cinema screens more arthouse types of films. There are also theatre productions staged. Some three years ago the theatre in te center of Alkmaar with the name 'De Vest' was totally renovated and modernized. It came out looking great. The theatre now bears the name 'TAQA Theater De Vest'. The location next to the big church is super. It is in walking distance of parking garages, a free bicycle parking (underground) in front of the building and also in walking distance of the train station. The programming is very diverse. It is a pity that they have quite a summer stop (as do most theatres) in which the building is not used to its fullest potential. We will go to this theatre again.See more..

Whenever you are visiting Northern Holland, the movie theatre in Bergen (close to Alkmaar) is worth a visit. It is situated beautifully in the forest. It has different movies every day with a seating capacity for 100 people. It is very cosy, old style. You can have a drink and a snack from the bar and is allowed to be taken into the movie. Halfway there is a break to replenish on the beverages. It is a 10 minute walk from the centre of Bergen.See more..
Outside looks like an old building but inside is very modern. It's a big space, there are different halls. I came with a friend who had a congress here and I had a chance to look around. I love the interior of the clockroom / rest room on the basement. One side is the cloackroom and the other side is mirror, beautiful!.
