Ecomare is first and foremost an animal rescue center. The fact that the setup of the exhibit is done so well and with so much care is therefore all the more impressive. Outside you can see all the rescue animals such as seals and porpoise but the care that the animal needs is first priority, showing them to the public is second. In order to do that the center has simply made large windows in the crèche areas. The animals that are stronger can stay in the bigger basins outside. One every so often the recovered animals are set back into the wild in the area where they are from. If that means a round trip to the arctic to release a stray, that is the round trip they make. I visited here with my cousins who had been there before but according to them the entire operation has gone downhill. Even though the money isnt there to improve the facilities and maintain it effectively, i still enjoyed the visit. The museum is small but pretty cool because it is in the old fort and is very diverse. The aquarium could have been better but it was nice because they have petting pools and you can feed the animals. There is also a giant whale skeleton in the basement which is pretty impressive. I think that if you are in the area you should visit, but it is not something that you need to go out of your way to see. See more..
