In IJmuiden we build the worlds largest sea lock. The Port of Amsterdam will become the number four greatest harbor in Europe. In SHIP, the information centre, you can experience the story behind the building process of the lock. SHIP is open every day and the entry is free. Kerk en kerkhof zijn gelegen op een grotendeels ommuurde terp. Op deze terp stond oorspronkelijk een waarschijnlijk kleinere kerk, katholiek uiteraard en gewijd aan de Heilige Pancratius. Deze voorgaande kerk was wsl uit de late 13e eeuw of de 1e helft van de 14e eeuw. Omstreeks 1450 werd tegen deze voorgaande kerk de toren gebouwd, die dus het oudste deel vormt van de huidige kerk. De oude kerk werd, m.u.v. de toren, in de 15e eeuw gesloopt en de huidige Pancratiuskerk, een eenbeukige kruiskerk, ontstond. In fasen ... midden 15e eeuw werd het schip, gebouwd, de dwarspanden en het koor in de vroege 16e eeuw. Aan de gevels van de kerk zien we hier en daar afwijkende stenen. Deze zijn wsl hergebruikt na de sloop van de vroegere kerk. De kerktoren telt drie geledingen en is gedekt door een z.g. ingesnoerde spits. De diverse typen nissen in de toren zijn erg mooi. In de toren een luidklok uit 1601, een vroeg werk van klokken- en geschutsgieter Hendrick Wegewaert (1580-1624). De bouwstijl van kerk en toren is overwegend laat-gotisch. Het interieur van de kerk is een bezoek waard. Erg mooie houten tongewelf, nog "bloot", dwz niet betimmerd, gepleisterd of geverfd. Mooie preekstoel en doopbogen 17e eeuw. Het orgel dateert van 1895 en is buiten functie. Rond 1575 ging de kerk over in hervormde handen. Na grondige restauratie in de jaren 80 vorige eeuw werd de kerk een cultureel centrum, dat zeer populair is in Oosterblokker en omgeving.See more..
