Hoofdtoren Hoorn uit 1532-1534, North Holland Province, The Netherlands

4.5 (33 reviews) Spent < 1 hour Ranking #4 in Hoorn Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • Castles

Worth making sure you visit.

The restaurant/cafe was unfortunately closed at the hour that I was there, but I really enjoyed the building. It is indeed a focal point of the harbor, and I hung around enjoying the views and the people- and boat-watching, protected by the unicorn. The statue(s) of the 3 boys is adjacent.

    What an amazing tower
The tower of Hoorn clearly displays that the cities focus was on the sea and not on the roads. Trying to impress the arriving ships a huge tower was built at the port. Marvellous to see

    Terrific venue, good food.
We ate here on a wild and woolly evening. We had a perfect window table in this 16th century fortified tower from which we could see the boats bobbing about in the harbour. It is like dipping a toe into history. The service was wonderfully friendly and helpful. As usual in Holland, the fish dishes were excellent. My only complaint would be that the Romanian wines didn't match up to the food or the setting.
