Fantastic educational windmill museum
Fascinating educational tour of this historic windmill and of windmills’ role in Dutch history and development. We were the only ones on our tour, and our volunteer guide was incredibly knowledgeable, demonstrating using small models how different types of windmills worked and how they were reworked depending on what needed to be milled. It was awesome to see the huge sails and to learn about how the miller had to climb them to set the sails to catch the wind, and how the sail positions were used as messaging for the miller and community. Very worthwhile, especially for only 7.5 Euros each!

Friendly and informative guide
We visited on the last day of our trip to Amsterdam. The train from Amsterdam to Haarlem only took about 20 minutes, and the windmill is not far from the train station. Our guide was friendly and informative, and every part of the tour was interesting. Seeing the inside of a windmill is not something I ever thought I would do, and our guide really got us involved. We visited in the middle of a storm, but he was still willing to take us outside and show us the view from the top. Unlike most attractions we paid for during our trip, this was very affordable. The gifts in their shop are also very reasonably priced. This was an excellent tour. For anyone visiting Amsterdam, a trip to Haarlem is definitely worth your time and the Molen De Adriaan tour is great value for money.

Take the Tour!
Every ½ hour there is a guided tour of this old mill. They explain how it was used over the years and now it is only an attraction, but the inside tour is very bice. As we were there, they set the sails open on the windmill and got to see the whole windmill spinning. The tour guide speaks many languages and explains it to the group in their language. The stairways are narrow, but very safe. There is also a video history to sit and watch showing the complete history of the windmill.
