The Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen revives the stories of people who once lived on the shores of the Zuiderzee. See, hear, taste and smell everyday life around the Zuiderzee as it was before the Afsluitdijk (IJsselmeer Barrier Dam) changed the sea into the IJsselmeer in 1932. The Zuiderzee Museum is oriented toward the history, the current situation and the future of this area. It focuses upon the themes of water, crafts and communities. This story is visualized in the Outdoor Museum with historical buildings, and in the Indoor Museum with thematic exhibitions.

Fun for the children and not only ?. Our daughter loved the activities. We didn't manage to see everything and we missed the indoors museum although we came at 10 am. Not complaining, as we really enjoyed our time there, but we would have liked the museum to close a little later, especially as in august the weather is nice and the sun sets very late.

Simply great!
Great outdoor museum. One of the best of the many I have visited across the globe. Background information and personal stories (who lived there; what were their experiences they had at the time, etc.) for every single house. You feel like you are moving back in time. Meticulously maintained. Great to reach with public transport (they have a ferry service from the train station to the museum which is included in the admission. Easy one hour train ride from Amsterdam. A must when your are in the region.
