Nice & quaint fishing village

This is a very nice, small fishing village (located about 22 km from Amsterdam) with traditional Dutch wooden houses. Tourism now is a major source of revenue for this village. Another attraction is a wooden show factory, where sightseers can see how the shoes are made and buy shoes. It can be visit by car, bus, or boat.

    Great city tour
This was a really great tour and very informative and great way to learn more about amsterdam with a few stop at few places to learn more. Even though bus had a flat the tour company sorted without any delays. The tour guide was great. Great price. Staff were friendly.

EBS bus the best tourist bargain in Amsterdam
We did visit Marken which is a nice village, but this review is about how we got there and to other places by an amazingly cheap day trip on EBS buses. We went to the Amsterdam Central Railway Station and walked through to the rear of the Station via some underground shops, and found the ticket office for EBS buses ( its does not open until 9am ). We purchased cards for all day travel on the buses, only 10 euros each. We then went upstairs at the rear of the Railway Station where the buses depart from. We needed directions at at Railway Station to find the EBS bus ticket office. The buses operate on four different coloured routes to outlying villages of Amsterdam. The buses are very modern, comfortable, and run frequently. There were hardly any passengers on them, we think most tourists are completely unaware of this great way to travel at such a cheap price. We chose to visit Edam, Monickendam, Volendam and Marken. They were all lovely little places. We could have visited more places if we had wanted to. We did notice some tour coaches at places we were at, and reflected that the people on them were probably paying at least 6 times the price we were paying, for the same trip. At Volendam we chose to take the ferry to Marken which took 20 to 25 minutes and cost 8 euros 50 cents. For someone not wanting to take the ferry it can be reached on the bus with a bit of back tracking. We arrived back at Amsterdam late afternoon. EBS buses are clean and they are a fantastic way to get around the outlying villages at a bargain price, the best deal in Amsterdam.
