This was a great experience, the organization by Mifune was perfect, the staff very friendly and the training great professionals. we learned a lot.     We rented one of the "fluisterbootjes" at De Gouw. A "fluisterboot" is an electric driven small metal basic boot. The boats are perfect to cross through the World Heritage site De Beemster. Which is a fantastic experience. At de Gouw they provide you with a map of the area, including tips for stops during your trip. You hire the boat for a day, which is sufficient to explore the area. We made tour of 6 hours and enjoyed every minute. Tip: Rent a luxury chair with your boat. These are really comfortable. The boats are well maintained and the people at De Gouw are super friendly.     After meeting Jasper, one of the family members, at a retailer in De Koog we visited the brewery in Den Burg. We were received by Marinka, hoe twin sister. Since we were the only people at the moment she introduced the brewery to us, told us the history and gave information about the beers when she served the taste glasses. Since it was a Thursday, no tour was planned. But when a group Germans arrived her father did a tour which we joined. All was done in a very enthusiastic way, with passion for the process, the ingredients and the product.     Project "De Nollen" is a 15 hectare dune area near Den Helder that features huge metal sculptures by the Dutch artist R.W. van de Wint (1942-2006). The sculpture park is currently being developed to improve various facilities, but it is open to visitors. Van de Wint's two sons, Ruud and Gijs, are in charge of maintaining and promoting the art space. The rough, mostly rust-brown art objects are anchored in, and sometimes impressively fuse with, WWII bunkers. They merge beautifully with the unadorned dune landscape. Wandering around, the visitor continually discovers unexpected perspectives on the sculptures, some of which are reflected in artificial ponds. Several objects can, under the guidance of a volunteer, be entered -- revealing interiors with colourfully abstract paintings and natural light-play. One of them is, intriguingly, accessed via an underground tunnel, lit by candles. There are a few parking places next to De Nollen. Train station Den Helder Zuid is located right opposite. In the reception area one can enjoy a coffee or a small snack. It also can be hired for small-scale events. You are advised to check De Nollen's website for opening times. In fact, it will be worth your while to phone ahead to make sure a guide can show you the interiors of some of the sculptures that are locked. The project also hosts a museum, in which Ruud van de Wint's paintings and drawings will be on display -- but this museum is still under construction. Whoever gasped in admiration at Ernst Veen's TV series "Gardens of Wonder," about the best private sculpture parks across the globe, will not want to miss this gem.     This is the one and only paper mill that works on wind power. It run by volunteer. It was very interesting to see the paper making proces, from the cotton fabrics to paper. Entrance fee is € 5,00. You got a brochure which is to my opinion the best brochure we've ever got. All the information and the map are there and we could follow the route by ourselves.     DuneBiking is a great opportunity to see another side of Holland that you usually wouldn't see. Christine is a fantastic tour guide, leading us through the villas and estates of Bloemendaal, through the forests and flower fields just south of Haarlem, and finally across the national dune reserves to Zandvoort and back. The landscape is beautiful and diverse...and you get to see it close up and first hand. Bicycles are available--they are new and in great condition (and are fitted out with 7 gears--very handy for some of the uphill climbs that come with this landscape--Holland isn't all flat).     We hired Konito for a 75 minute tour of the Windmills,cheese factory and clog making factory at Zaandijk. He met us at the restaurant in the village and proceeded to give us a wonderful informative tour of the area. He went above and beyond sharing all his knowledge of his home town and giving us a trip on the local ferry and a tour of the wonderful old town pointing out houses of historic nature.
