3 Star Places To Visit in North Holland Province, The Netherlands (50)
3.5DFDS Seaways(302 reviews) - Convenient way to travel from and to Scotland Public Transportation Systems • Ferries
We took our car from Germany to Scotland this year. On the way to GB we crossed via Calais and Dover. On our return we used the ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam. This was certainly the best way to end our two weeks holiday. The boat ride was smooth, the services provided on board more than sufficient for the trip and the staff was friendly. The boat itself does not compare to e.g. the ferry boats from Color Line (Kiel - Oslo), but was sufficient. Next time we will spend a little more money though and book a cabin in the Commodore class. The other cabins are on decks 4-6 and rather noisy plus lots of vibrations from the engine room.See more..

3.5Amsterdamse Poort(142 reviews) - Pretty cool vestige of Haarlem's past Points of Interest & Landmarks
Certainly worth a visit if you're in the area, but not a reason to go to Haarlem (fortunately there are plenty of other reasons to go to Haarlem). It is a great representation of what the walls of Haarlem used to be and just how tall they were. You can walk under the gate, but that's about it (it appears that someone may actually live in the tower... but there are no tours that I know of). See more..
3.5Frans Hals Museum - Hal(133 reviews) - Good that it is included Wednesday: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Art Museums
The Frans Hals Museum and De Hallen Haarlem come together to form the renewed Frans Hals Museum: one museum at two locations. Where old meets new. Historical works hang alongside contemporary installations, and the Golden Age sits alongside the modern day. The meeting of Old Masters and contemporary art lets you look in a different way and see more.See more..
3.5Texel Zoo(97 reviews) - A must see if on island Wednesday: 9:30 AM - 4:00 PM Zoos
Again you have not failed to impress. Today I arrived late for the birds of prey show, but went in to view the changes made since I was here last year. Added a few more different attractions, which were set out and housed very well. Always makes me smile to walk around your tropical area and have the birds flying past me. Love the interaction and watching people spot another beautiful bird, where to look first! Well done will continue to visit every year when I come to visit family.See more..
When visiting, there was an exhibition of 'De Zilveren Camera', a photography competition. Photos were well displayed and the accompanying text was clear and added value. The hostess gave us a quick introduction of the history of the building. Recommended! See more..
3.5Van Blanckendaell Park(58 reviews) - Nice little zoo Wednesday: 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM Zoos

3.5Sauna & Beauty Den Ilp(44 reviews) - Highlight of our trip to the Netherlands Spent More than 3 hours Spas
In visiting the Netherlands, we were keen to visit an authentic (as against a touristy) sauna/spa and the one at Den Ilp surpassed our expectations. We seemed to be the only non-Dutch people there but we were made very welcome. There was an excellent range of hot and cool rooms, a very relaxed pace, plenty of space both indoor and outdoor, and an attractive restaurant. The Aufguß was sensational and people were kind enough to explain what was happening and, more importantly, what was about to happen.See more..

When entering we did wonder what exactly we had booked! It is basically a house converted into a kind of a spa. We were met by the owner, Fred who was very charming and spent 4 hours there being completely spoiled. All the treatments were of a high quality and the staff were excellent. Naturally you can complain about this place because of the looks but when you are paying such a low price, what do you expect? We loved it and will return. See more..
Unfortunately we didn't spot any seals, even though this was the goal of the boat trip. One person on board, with a rather expensive zoom lens managed to spot some seals.... Now I know... I'll first save up for an expensive camera before buying the tickets for the boat :-) However, the trip was interesting enough without spotting the seals. We visited the military harbor of Den Helder and got very interesting information about the various ships there. The captain spoke Dutch and German only. There is a folder available with information in English, however the spelling/grammar is beyond comprehension. It is probably literally translated from Dutch because it simply is written in double Dutch. My teenage son was allowed in the cabin and steer the wheel. He enjoyed that very much. On board there are drinks served, as well as kibbelings (pieces of white fish with dough, fried) and other snacks. 2 hours is long enough. Would have loved seeing the seals... See more..

3.5Een Zee van Staal(31 reviews) - Sculptures Park in The Dunes Spent 1-2 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Monuments & Statues
This site is located next to the Tata steel factory, and probably that was also the sponsor of this sulpture park. Most of the artwork are abstract. It's quite nice to see, also up close but you need to walk on the sand and it was not always easy. There is a good path for the wheelchair so you can see it from a distance. It is quite special. It is open 24/7.See more..
Being in hilversum you wouldn’t expect such a big shopping center. You’ll find many international clothing stores here as well as places to eat. Good for a rainy day.See more..
3.5Cheese Market Hoorn(26 reviews) - It's kinda cheesey (sorry, I couldn't resist) Wednesday: Spent 1-2 hours Flea & Street Markets
Cheese. Inextricably linked to Dutch traditions. The oldest cheese market in the Netherlands is the cheese market in Hoorn, the historic port town just north of Amsterdam. A cheese market with roots in the Golden Age and even further back in time. A cheese market that is still going strong: visit this weekly market from mid-June to the end of August, acquaint yourself with this age-old trade. It’s free! At times, it might seem a little funny; briskly stepping men in their impeccably white suits and their straw hats with colourful ribbons, carrying wooden racks filled with cheeses between them. Yet this scene is part of an age-old choreography, with each step having a meaning all its own. The stacking, the judging, the weighing: it all plays a role. The colourful history of the West-Friesland region is also highlighted through folk dancing in authentic nineteenth-century costumes.See more..
Located in the middle of the train station and the shopping center you'll find this iconic little monument. Which also is a pokestop and an ingress point. During these pressing times, it is a gentle reminder of something we all need to show more towards each other.See more..

This fort isn’t very well publicised but is worth a stop if you are in the area. The entrance is off Schansweg, where there is a small parking area and an information board ( in Dutch, German and English). The fort is free to visit during daylight hours. There is not much to see; a few brick entrances, the outline of the walls and a cannon, but there are good views over the countryside. We spent about 30 minutes there in total.See more..

3.5Twiske Haven(9 reviews) - Met By a Big Friendly Dog Wednesday: Boat Rentals • Kayaking & Canoeing
We wanted to rent a whisper boat for a semi-blustery day, knowing we were taking a change with the weather. Twiske Haven looked kind of quiet, so we headed for the office where a St. Bernard stuck his head out the door. The staff checked the weather, said the waves might be too rough for the boat motors to overcome, leaving the decision up to us. We elected to hike around the area on a trail she suggested instead. I wish we would have been able to boat around the area, however I especially appreciate the hospitality and assistance Twiske Haven gave to us on a rainy, blustery day.See more..
