Nice but difficult
Very nice to go around, but requires some skills. Keel-less and rudder-less boats are not easy to maneuvre. We also had few problems to find suitable mooring points, At the end it was a very nice experience.

Great Opportunity to Self-drive a Custom Cruise
Fantastic trip through and around Amsterdam. Beautiful scenery, friendly people and amazing food. Trip was with another couple and we shared driving duties. Great fun going through the various locks, and seeing several small towns. Breakfast onboard (coffee maker provided but we walked to each town for morning coffee) and fairly comfortable (but small) sleeping conditions. Bathrooms are interesting (toilet compartment serves as shower also) but functional when not using services found at docking locations. Everything provided for dining from cutlery to pots and pans. Corkscrew and cutting board included. It was great to be able to eat cheese and bread and drink beer and wine while lazily moving from town to town. Book you're given at start of cruise provides all necessary information about routes and bridges so limited chance of getting really lost. Or you can opt for a GPS unit. Friendly service but slow due to only one person working the payment desk. And a little tough to find when arriving by local bus. But all part of the adventure. Boats are easy to drive but it takes a little practice to get comfortable getting into and out of the locks. Parking at docks can get a little trick also when in a crowded area (but boats have large bumpers for protection). Will definitely do this again (different route or different country), and will rent from LocaBoat when we do. Definitely recommend you put this type of trip (self drive barge) on your bucket list.
