Four of us got two canoes, and it was a total of $100 ($25 each). Not only did we have more than three glorious hours in this beautiful river/scenery, but our care was basically VIP on both sides of the ride! We were cheerfully greeted in the parking lot (where attendees remain the entire day - so you can feel confident in the safety of your vehicle). Took a bit of a ride (beautiful and comfortable ride) to the starting point. The drivers carried our canoes to the water for us. When we arrived at the end, they were standing right there to take care of the canoes. We just grabbed our stuff and hopped on the bus. We were immediately on the couple-minute trip back to the parking lot, without having to wait to fill the bus. Peshtigo on single raft was my favorite, working the river for 3.5 miles and solo handling the big water; also a third less expensive than Menomenee. My next trip I am planning the Peshtigo 2-3 times on consecutive mornings and Menomenee one afternoon. The big rush on Menomenee was the same price I paid earlier in summer for flat water kayak on Rock River, so the value is incomparable, and will probably up the adventure and do the wild ride 4-man raft. The Peshtigo River Outpost's rustic cabin and campsite were perfect for my group of 9. We took on the Menominee River rafting as a group of 9 with a guide at 9:00 AM on Saturday and the Peshtigo River solo rafting at 4:30 PM. Both trips were phenomenal, tons of fun. The solo rafting is fairly demanding, especially in July due to water levels. I would recommend splitting these rafting trips into two days and doing another activity (Zipline, paintball, etc.) in between. I went on these rafting trips 16 years ago with my grandmother and had the time of my life, and this time around sharing the experience with friends and family was just as incredible. It has been over a year and still think of our vacation to Madeline Island. While we were on the island, Adventure Vacations rented out family a boat for the week and could have not been more impressed. Not sure where to start as everything they did was above our expectations. On our first day they walked us to the boat and went over every safety feature for the boat and then every other little thing we could possibly need to know, just in case. We started to talk about our plans for the week and they immediately took out a market and started mapping out good places, dangerous places and so much more. Very disappointed in the bayfieldkayak group since they changed the time of our prepaid kayak trip due to "expected high winds" which was not true. No wind, many other outfitters out kayaking at the time of our cancelled trip. Plus any outfit that tries to capitalize on the good reputation of another outfitter is bad form to begin with. I wish I had read the review of Rohr's before our trip. The kayaking on the river sounds wonderful and is something I would like to return for. As it was, I was looking for fairly easy hiking trails and found Rohr's in a list of trails in Vilas county. The people were very friendly, and we enjoyed our hike on the well-marked and fairly easy trails around the property. Masks were required when around others, which we appreciated. The headwaters of the Wisconsin River are beautiful. I hope we can return in the near future and take advantage of the opportunities to enjoy the river. I should add that you have to take a detour to reach Rohr's now, as the bridge over the WI River is being replaced. Just follow the signs.See more..
We went to Drifty's while vacationing in area. This was our family's first time kayaking. The staff was great and patiently answered all our questions. Prices were comparable to other boat rentals. The River was pretty calm and the pick up was on time. We did the shortest trip (about 2 hrs long), but want to do a longer trip in the future. They went beyond the call of duty in giving us waterproof bags for our wallets and car keys, taking a large number of pictures from various vantage points when we left on our journey. They arrived at the agreed upon pickup location along the river within 3 minutes of our arrival, returned us to the parking lot and even offered to drop individuals in our group right next to our car. The Bark River had a fairly slow current and curved back & forth making it fun and relaxing. When we got to Crooked Lake, we kayaked along the shoreline where we saw fish, birds and turtles. I almost thought they were closed when I drove up at 7:30 in late Sept. Exterior lighting in almost nil. Great beer selection for the size of the place. Gent behind the counter was very friendly and cordial. You can get candy cigarettes, the sugar stick kind like you use to get when you were a kid back in the 70's. They don't taste the same, but it was still a cool find. I do not endorse children, or anyone smoking, but it was a fun throwback to find. The Voyageur field trip is truly a hands on experience in history, and camaraderie. The purpose of this PROGRAM is to introduce students to the fur trade era and the lives of it's most colorful participants, the Voyageurs. Students will engage in a role play by paddling a Voyageur canoe and learning about the Voyageur way of life. You Will step into the past with Jean Paul Pauquette and Jacques Largillier as their guide. They will become part of the fur trade as Voyageurs hired by the NORTH WEST CO. and learn the main points of the fur trade, from the rich EUROPEAN INVESTORS, the natives and trappers , to the "Plu" or pelts mostly the beaver being the standard of currency. The students will also paddle the time machine back to the beginning of exploration of the Fox River by Father Marquette, and Louis Jolliet at the futherest most French outpost. The history of the Fox River, and the importance of river travel will be witnessed by the types of bridges, and the high banks left by the dredger when straightening out the river. Historical texts are not a clear lens that zooms in on the past to tell us faithfully how the world really was. Rather, as lenses they are chipped, cracked, and fogged, laced with errors, omissions, silent assumptions, and preconceptions. They don't reflect the past so much as refract it. Some sources are more like a kaleidoscope than a microscope. they fragment and rearrange the past rather than reveal it in a true form. It is our attempt to relive this part of the past and in doing so gain a clear view into the hardships and colorful way of life of the voyageurs. This is a great place to rent a canoe and paddle down the river. The trip we took was super easy and just the right length (4 hours) for us. Not sure what all of the options are but this is what was recommended to us given that we had not paddled a river before. The tavern itself is a step back in time! Carm and Mark could not have been more gracious. A storm came up while we were out and Mark came to meet us at the halfway mark (although we had passed by already, it was very kind of him to come and wait for us!). The sun came back out and we saw several eagles as we paddled along. Putting in and getting out were very easy. Highly recommend a stop here if you are in the area without your own canoe.
