St. Joan of Arc Chapel image
We had to wait a bit before exploring since a number of students in graduation gowns were using the outside of the chapel for photo shoots. This small chapel was located on the Marquette University campus near the library. It faced beautiful gardens and in the back was a recent installation of a grotto dedicated to St. Mary. Inside was quite small with an old world feeling. Beautiful stained glass windows and simple decor made this very serene inside. See more..
  4. 4.5 Dickeyville Grotto (107 reviews)
    - A real piece of art in a religious setting

    Dickeyville Grotto image
This place is a work of art. I am not religious and I could still very much appreciate this grotto. The level of detail is amazing. I came on a weekday morning about 10am and the weather was great. I was walking around the main spot for the 3rd time (you can see something new everyone you look) when someone from the church greeted me and I was offered a tour. What a great way to see it. She showed me all the work, gave me the background how it started and explained to me what everything meant. I really enjoyed it and think it’s a good stop to see something different. See more..

  6. 5.0 Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration Motherhouse (94 reviews)
    - A Special Anniversary Mass

Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration Motherhouse image
We got married in this St. Rose Chapel 50 years ago (August 19, 1972) we and decided to return on our 50th anniversary for a Mass and a blessing by the priest (if he would be willing). I was an alumni who earned a nursing degree in l973. We were given contact information to the sister in charge of the liturgies. She spoke to the retired priest who offers Mass during the week and he was willing and happy to include us on this special day. We were filled with joy by the welcome extended to us by the sisters that live in this convent and by the priest who celebrated Mass that day. Plus he gave a beautiful sermon about love and commitment. And the sister that played the organ and piano also played a hymn on the harp. It penetrated our souls. After the Mass we were given a special tour of the chapel for Perpetual Adoration. See more..

Queen of the Holy Rosary Mediatrix of Peace Shrine image
We saw the signs and decided to stop. We were "guided" by someone on the grounds (didn't introduce himself, but he did volunteer there and was quite "informative"). Most shrines and grottos feel peaceful, warm and humbling. Afterwards, we looked up the history and background of this area. It felt to us, so stifling, condemning and did not feel peaceful one bit. Politics, race and more dictated the conversation of the "tour guide"...we were polite, but wanted to leave almost immediately. I will always respect the ways of others and religions but I felt so unwelcome. Comments even that women should not wear pants (I had very loose pants on as we were going hiking) and more. I would recommend reading the history and background before going. Extremely conservative, very judgmental and not a serene stop at all. Highly recommend other grottos or shrines in Wisconsin. I gave it 2 dots ... because it is what it is. There are believers. See more..

    Curran Spirituality Center image
Completed in 2015 this charming Devotional Chapel and Rosary Prayer Garden is open year round and free to all religions. It was built by retired Catholic Priest Father Bill O'Brien on rural property of his great grandparents. In fact, the cross inside the stone chapel was carved from their old homestead. The Chapel and grounds are located five miles east of Denmark, WI in the small town of Curran, WI. There are chair for rest and reflection both inside and outside the chapel. There is a portable bathroom on the property as well. As of yet, there is no sign advertising the chapel. It is located just west of Curran, WI on the north side County Road KB. Look for a tan painted fence. There is no admission cost but donations are gladly accepted. Hours may vary during inclement winter weather. Come enjoy a very peaceful place in the Wisconsin countryside. About two miles from the Carmelite Monastery. See more..
