4.5Oshkosh Public Museum(98 reviews) - Excellent Museum Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • History Museums • Day Trips
This is a great museum. It’s across the street from the Paine, so was super easy to get to after viewing the Nutcracker exhibit. It’s in the beautiful Sawyer Family Victorian mansion. One fun activity is spying all of the Tiffany design elements in the mansion. There’s a comprehensive exhibit of Native American artifacts, including many spearheads, axe heads, arrow tips, clay pots, and other items. There’s also a simulated dig site, a birch lodge, and a birchbark canoe. The signs give a great overview of Native American civilization over the millennia right here in Wisconsin. We stuck around to watch the Apostle clock chime the hour. What a fascinating piece of craftsmanship, I definitely recommend seeing it. Another fun thing to do is check out Grannie’s attic, a fun hodge-podge of old treasures that’s sure to bring back memories.See more..

...old stone lighthouse that stands tall and high close to the Kenosha Water-Tower, another city symbol. I wish it would have been open so I could've checked-out the museum inside, but it really doesn't matter does it? This lighthouse (as well as all other lighthouses) is just a temporary diversion in my life that probably will disappear like numerous other diversions have. I also think they are just something for me to use as checkpoints for whatever physical direction I'm going. Another dichotomy to lighthouses. Dan - another duality to consider!See more..

4.5Racine Heritage Museum(30 reviews) - Well spent three hours Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM History Museums
Well above the usual collection of junk and antiques that many communities call their museum. Very low key, covers many aspects of the city and area. Historic 2-story building with full basement - all broken up into many rooms (probably about 15 all told) with loads and loads of exhibits on local history. The staff was friendly and informative. The exhibits were very well organized with each room having a separate theme. One notable thing was the volunteers working at looms to make carpets and place mats. We bought one; excellent quality - hand-made the way it was done before mass production. Admission is free; we left a donatiion. We spent about 90 minutes here seeing the various way life was starting in 1880 and through to almost 1980. The museum is only open from 10:00 A - 2:00 P on MWF and Saturday. Plan accordingly. The top floor boasts an old courthouse. The basement carries a lot of equipment from 100 years ago. Lots to see.See more..

4.5Mineral Point Railroad Museum(20 reviews) - Excellent displays on Mineral Point railroading and mining Spent 1-2 hours History Museums
The Mineral Point Railroad Museum is open to the public Thursday through Saturday 10am-4pm and Sundays noon-4pm from May through early October. The museum is housed in a two-story stone depot that is the oldest standing RR depot in Wisconsin. Our depot was built in 1856 for the Mineral Point Railroad, which was acquired by the Milwaukee Road RR in 1880. The depot was in use until approximately 1969, and the last train left Mineral Point in 1984. The depot was meticulously renovated and restored from 2000 to 2004 and reopened as a museum on September 2, 2004.The contents of the museum cover a wide range of aspects of the railroad's significance to Mineral Point and Southwestern Wisconsin, but our artifacts should appeal to adults and children of any age. We also have a 5'x11' model railroad that was professionally developed for us that reflects a scale replica of the area around the Mineral Point depot during its heyday - 1900 to 1920 - including an operating steam locomotive, water tank, lumber yard, turntable, and two engine houses. Pushing a button will cause a steam locomotive to move around the RR yard while related sounds play through a speaker. Our museum is conveniently located near other points of historical interest in Mineral Point, including other Commerce Street attractions, Shake Rag street, and Pendarvis. A comfortable tour of the museum might last 45 minutes and a visit to the museum and nearby shops (open seasonally) within walking distance would make a wonderful day trip. Mineral Point is located about 45 minutes from Madison or Dubuque. We welcome group visit inquiries - please leave us a message and we will respond. We may be able to offer your group a guided tour with adequate notice.Let us know if we can answer any questions and we hope that you visit us soon!See more..

The museum isn't anything special, and the items they sell are very overpriced. Im a dog person and they dont control their dogs at all. 4.5Luxembourg American Cultural Society(13 reviews) - Small museum with a lot of European history Wednesday: Speciality Museums • Cultural Tours • History Museums
I heard about this place and was intrigued by how a little country like Luxembourg could merit a museum in rural WI. It's full of photos and stories about the ties between the local region and the country of Luxembourg. Not really a kid friendly place, but an adult would enjoy the docent led tours and all the stories you can read. They have a permanent exhibit as well as some that change. Very small but quite nice. Don't miss the gardens. We went out to the pond and saw a family of geese. Well done.See more..

3.5Waupaca Train Depot(9 reviews) - Watched The Trains Fly Past! Spent < 1 hour History Museums
I attended an October, 2015 fundraising event here for a community arts organization. After 10 years of painstaking restoration projects by Mike Kirk and the Waupaca Historical Society, the 1907 Depot is almost back to the way it looked in its glory days. Unlike most restored train depots, this one is still in its original location, and several trains roared by during the event. Now open only on special occasions, when the restoration is complete in 2016, Mike (who manages the building for the Historical Society) says regular hours are planned, at least during tourist season.See more..
