Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame image
Though I'm not a Packers fan per se, but more of a Bears and NFL fan, I really enjoyed my visit and would highly recommend it to any NFL fan. The Packers are undeniably a great and storied franchise and they deserve their own HOF. Come to think of it, a lot of pro sports teams don't have their own HOF, but it seems a good idea. As a 12 year old kid, I along with many American sports fans in 1967 watched the memorable Ice Bowl on TV. This game has since arguably been called the greatest football game ever played. The Ice Bowl exhibit was by far my favorite exhibit here and it brought back vivid and nostalgic memories. For that alone, the HOF was a very worthwhile visit. See more..

The Hearthstone is a large, beautifully restored Queen Anne Victorian Style home built in 1882 by Henry J. Rogers, Superintendent of the Appleton Paper and Pulp Mill. On September 30, 1882, Hearthstone was the first house in the world to be lit by an Edison central hydroelectric power station. The house retains many unique, genuine features, including the original Thomas Edison electroliers and light switches. Appleton was one of the first three cities in the world to be lit by an Edison central power station, the other two being New York and London. This was all due to Mr. Rogers, who decided to invest in Edison’s power station in order to light two paper mills and his home. Since it became a museum in 1987, Hearthstone’s focus is to preserve the house and its artifacts to re-create a historical experience based on its Thomas A. Edison heritage for the cultural enjoyment and educational benefit of the public through its many exhibits and programs. See more..

    Al. Ringling Mansion image
Excellent tour by our guide Kim. She took the time to explain many details about the family and the house and answered all of our questions (and we had many). So much history within the walls. There has been alot of work done to bring it back to its original glory, and that is still ongoing now. They are doing a great job and paying attention to detail. Many of the furniture pieces in the house are original, as are the chandeliers and other items. It was owned by the local Elks Club for many years, and they made many changes which the new owners are now working on remodeling to keep the history of the family house intact. SIde note - when we took the tour, it was cash only, no credit cards were accepted. There is an ATM on site in the attached brewery/restaurant. See more..

My grandparents were visiting from out of state so we found the Paper Discovery Center. My children we also along with us. I thought it was really hands on and educational. It was a fun find however I was shocked by the price of each person. I was thankful my grandparents wanted to treat us but I wouldn't have paid had it been me. The visit to 1860 Light Station was a very enjoyable stop during my week-day trip to Port Washington. First I drove up the hill from downtown to the light station but I did not find any designated visitor parking spots near the light station, so I drove back down and parked on the street at the bottom of the wooden stairs, and ascended the stairs. Nice views of the surroundings, Lake Michigan, and Port Washington downtown from the stairs. The light station was closed (being open Fri, Sat, & Sun), but I walked around the light station and enjoyed reading about the history of the light station. The outdoor displays are quite informative. The light station is very well maintained, and makes for a scenic and memorable view. See more..

Stopped in on our visit to Manitowoc in the fall. What a fantastic selection to browse! We missed the cheese production, but the museum was very interesting to browse through. As we were traveling for a few more days, the staff offered to box up our selections, keep them in the cooler and mail them to us once we would be home. As she was helping to pack our order, Alex suggested her favorite way to eat the Blueberry Cobbler was in a grilled cheese sandwich with powdered sugar on top. We’ve had a chance to try it and it’s fantastic! We call it, “The Alex Special!” Even though we’re in Michigan, our specialty cheeses will now come from Henning’s! Well done! See more..

My wife and I loved this place. It tells the story of a little known industry founded in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Wood Type and wood cut illustrations were used in the past to print posters, advertising, and flyers. Banner headlines for newspapers were printed with wood type rather than lead. The Hamilton museum has well over a million examples of wood type, it also displays and explains the processes required to convert maple logs into usable type and printing blocks. This was an interesting, varied museum. There is a saw mill, a train station, a logging station, a museum for the Civilian Conservation Corps, a food tent, and a train. There is something to capture everyone's attention. After you walk through this free museum complex, there is a wonderful park nearby for many things for the kids to do. See more..

...old stone lighthouse that stands tall and high close to the Kenosha Water-Tower, another city symbol. I wish it would have been open so I could've checked-out the museum inside, but it really doesn't matter does it? This lighthouse (as well as all other lighthouses) is just a temporary diversion in my life that probably will disappear like numerous other diversions have. I also think they are just something for me to use as checkpoints for whatever physical direction I'm going. Another dichotomy to lighthouses. Dan - another duality to consider! See more..
