  2. 4.5 Swinging Bridge (24 reviews)
    - Great views and hike
Wednesday: 5:00 AM - 11:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Bridges • Scenic Walking Areas
    Swinging Bridge image
Visited the Swinging Bridge with the family (kids are 7 & 10). Glen Park above has lots to do- a couple of playgrounds, picnic tables, a splash pad (was open), and a pool (looked closed for COVID). The bridge had a great view of the river below. We took a dirt path basically straight down from the bridge to the river below right next to the 1st falls. The climb was steep. There is also a paved path that leads down to the 2nd falls. From there you can walk along the river to the other waterfall. When we went I think there was some extra water. They had gotten 9 inches earlier in the week, so a couple of places we took our shoes off to cross. Normally you might not have to. This was the first time we had been there. Recommend wearing water shoes and a swim suit as you can walk along (in) the river and swim in the water by the falls under the bridge. The area is really pretty! Recommend a stop to see! See more..

I love Wisconsin Point and the lighthouse. It is my go to place to relax and de-stress. There is now graffiti which is sad to see. Be careful it walking out to the lighthouse. Summer is a busy time not only for tourists, but also to see ships coming and going. See more..

    Terrell's Island image
We love going to Terrel’s Island. It’s a great way to get our steps in, be together as a family and enjoy this unique place. The full route is 3.8 miles and at times you are near marsh like scenery and then at other times in the wide open, surrounded by water on all sides. You won’t be disappointed- and the only fee is your own donation in a lockbox at the entrance. Enjoy!! See more..

    - Worth a quick stop
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM Historic Sites • Castles • Scenic Walking Areas
    Mound Hill Park image
I saw the flag from I-94 to H. It is a short drive off of the freeway. The hill is very steep to drive up. There are no lined parking spaces available just a circle turn around. A few wide steps and you are at the base of the castle. It has three levels with a lot of graffiti. Spectacular views of the area below. Watch out for those last 2 feet near the top of the stairs as there is no hand rail to grab onto at the top. See more..

This is a wonderful farm run by Dominican Sisters and volunteers. You'll find a variety of gardens, animals, green energy systems, and places for retreat. 11. 5.0 Upper Hixon Forrest Park (5 reviews)
    - Legacy of Ellen Hixon

    Upper Hixon Forrest Park image
I would rename this page into Hixon Forest. The forest is a sprawling entity, with multiple trails and many parking lots, and divided into subsections. Upper Hixon Forest is just one such subsection. This gem was gifted to the city of La Crosse by Ellen Hixon ages ago. Her monument and the story are commemorated at the Grandad Bluff - separate La Crosse Park bordering Hixon Forest. See more..

I have been here many times since childhood, for special events or just to enjoy the park. There are several shelters for events, a playground, ball field, and plenty of parking. It is right on the river, so it is particularly nice at sunset. See more..
  13. 4.5 Greens Coulee Park (2 reviews)
    - Outdoors adventures....
Wednesday: 6:00 AM - 11:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Lookouts • Scenic Walking Areas
    Greens Coulee Park image
My son thought this would be a good hike for my daughter and I. As a more experienced hiker, he loved it. We are not as experienced and found the uphill climb to be quite a challenge. Don't attempt it with a stroller, as the path is not even or paved - and it's not for the elderly, either. You will get a workout trying to get to the top. We ended up stopping at the meadow on the Clearwater Trail to see the view and then headed back down because it was going to be dark soon. I am sure you'd have better luck with a fresh approach to a morning jaunt. There are a variety of trails and I'm looking forward to seeing the different aspects of what is offered here. Just wasn't prepared for the first visit like I should have been! See more..

The River Bend Trail offers a great recreational experience. It has a paved trail with some side trails along the way. It follows mostly along the Wisconsin River and has historical information along the way. Along the trail you will find benches, bike stations, a sharing library and many more unique items. The Agra Pavilion is a new addition in 2019 that is available for community use. The River Bend Trail has been a great addition to the Merrill community. See more..
  15. 4.0 Wisconsin state park (2 reviews)
    - Misplaced review
Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas
This review is yet another case of someone not knowing where they actually went. It should be filed with all the others under the Bigfoot State park entry, the correct heading for this attraction. There is an entry fee per vehicle and you need to be very careful pulling out from the park in either direction ontoLakeshore Drive as there are curves and hills in both directions with heavy traffic and the area is constantly patrolled. 16. 4.0 Wisconsin Veterans Tribute (1 review)
    - The weapons of war on display
Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues • Scenic Walking Areas
    Wisconsin Veterans Tribute image
You can spot the Wisconsin Veterans Tribute from the I-29 and after a number of trips in the area, my wife and I decided to stop and see the memorial. A row of flags of all nations and a granite memorial mark the site. The location is also a gas stop and restaurant so it draws a lot of visitors. What is on display is a pre-World War II Japanese cannon, a M-60 tank, Bell AH-1 Cobra and a Naval gun. See more..

  19. 4.0 Rock & River (1 review)
    - Unique bench artwork by local youths
Bodies of Water • Scenic Walking Areas
Think there are 7 benches- maybe more. Saw the one at Rock & River St. Croix Falls, WI. It's located on the south path of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway Visitor Center. This was designed by local children ages 9 to 12 with help from a national park ranger and park sculpture teacher. They are all different - no two alike. See more..
  20. 5.0 Bayfield Civic League Memorial Park (1 review)
    - Gorgeous Waterfront Vantage Point
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas
Bayfield Civic League Memorial Park image
The first and only other time I visited Bayfield was summer 1980, exactly 40 years prior to this visit. The first time was so enchanting that I always wanted to go back, but it wasn't in the cards. So in August, we made it a point to drive out of our way to check out Bayfield again. We began our visit in Bayfield Civic League Memorial Park, where the vantage point is perfection for watching ferries come and go to Madeline Island, and for catching occasional yacht traffic at the marina just to the south. The park is about half a city block long, with nicely maintained grassy lawn and plenty of strategically placed park benches for resting weary feet. Hanging flower baskets and American flags adorn lampposts, creating a quaint ambiance. The view of the bay is unobstructed. A couple of educational markers relate the history of sailing in the Bayfield and Apostle Islands area. Dogs on leashes are welcome, and a paved walking path makes the park wheelchair accessible.
