  1. 4.5 Milwaukee Public Library (127 reviews)
    - Fantastic place for kids

The children's section in the central library is wonderful- keeps kids busy for at least an hour...sometimes more! Has a lighthouse that small children can climb up into and overlooks the entire children's book area. There is a train table with enough trains that no one goes without. There's a puppet theatre with about 20 different hand puppets so you can sit and enjoy your kids entertaining you. Also lots of nooks for reading to your kids. Lego table in a nook. Lots of movies and books to choose from. They have a children's program with featured activities throughout the year. Great place to spend a rainy day. And don't forget to stop in at the coffee shop for a sandwich and a drink- proceeds go to the library and prices are reasonable. You can also buy used books there. See more..

I moved here from a series of places that had sub-par libraries (after living 20+ years in Seattle, with a super system.) I nearly cried with happiness when I visited the library here. It is big, welcoming, with a good selection of books, periodicals, newspapers, etc, and a system of member libraries to supplement what is here. I have to give a shout out for the people working at the library, as well - they are unfailingly helpful, polite, and friendly. Such a deep pleasure to have this asset to the community! See more..

  7. 4.5 Bayfield Public Library (7 reviews)
    - A swell little library in Bayfield

    Bayfield Public Library image
My husband and I were recently in Bayfield, and one of our stops was the Carnegie Library in town. It’s a lovely old structure, stately and built of huge yellow-brown stone with rose-grey stone accents. The interior is immaculate, with stacks of books upstairs punctuated by inviting reading areas and two gorgeous period fireplaces at each end of the room. The downstairs is a children’s books area, activity center, kitchen and bathrooms. One gets the distinct impression that the library really does function as a community center. There were several patrons while we were there, even in the middle of the day. The librarians were very kind and allowed me to take photos. And on the way out was a table with donated books and DVDs that were free to take home. It’s wonderful to see a functioning library in a small town, and doubly so to visit one so inviting to patrons. We definitely recommend the Carnegie Library as a stop for visitors to Bayfield! See more..

I stopped in this library with my boyfriend and his mom after we were overheated from walking around the town. We were pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the architecture is from the inside! When we walked in we were greeted by one of the librarians and we were able to sit and rest our feet while looking out onto the lake. While there I also looked at a display they had honoring Ukraine which was extremely informative. A great place for a quick stop! See more..

It was a true pleasure to bring my adult children and grandson to show them our new Discovery Center! They were delighted and really taken by the space , design and activities. They were really inspired to see the dedication to the fact that the Stickley furniture origins hale from Osceola and the stateliness of the room. Well done Osceola and kudos to the incredible staff of the library. They are the best! See more..

Simmons Library was the first permanent location of the Kenosha Public Library. It was donated by industrialist Zalmon Simmons to honor his son, Gilbert M. Simmons. Architect Daniel J. Burnham, the leader of design for the World's Columbian Exposition of Chicago in 1893, designed the 9,045-square-foot, neoclassical revival building. The Simmons Library opened on Memorial Day, 1900. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. For over 100 years, Kenosha Public Library has served the City and County of Kenosha.
