We came here as a couple on a week away—and it was too cold to swim. Still, we were pleasantly surprised by how well-maintained the beach area is. The rocks are pristine and the area is virtually free of trash. The signage not to take rocks seems to be extremely effective and we were able to make cairns on the lakefront without issue. It was a great experience and highly recommended for families. See more..

Sand so smooth and soft and beach overall very clean. Not very crowded (expected wall to wall people based on full parking) and plenty of room to settle and watch the gentle surf. Locals told us this was the nicest beach in the area and I would agree. See more..

I've lived in Milwaukee for over three years now, and I feel as though I've been missing out by just discovering this hidden gem. I am not really a fan of Bradford Beach...too crowded and dirty...and looking at the lake but not wanting to swim in it is just depressing. Enter Atwater Park, one of my new favorite places in the city. Just a short drive north, Atwater is worth the trip. Beautiful, not crowded, and CLEAN. A wonderful beach with more families than hardcore day drinkers. The water is welcoming and there was plenty of room for us to set up our towels and picnic. We spent a fair amount of time in the lake and had a wonderful afternoon. I would highly recommend coming to Atwater Park. I can't wait to go back. Fair warning: the stairs to get down to the beach are pretty steep and quite the climb, so if you have small children or aren't a fan, you may find them to be a challenge. But they're definitely worth the hike. See more..

Great beach area, and parking close by. Also near several fun beachfront diners -- Chuck's and Gordy's. There's a charge for using the beach, but nice to avoid crowds in Lake Geneva. Right now (July 2020) the beach is open only to Fontana residents and pass holders. Need to check on current status due to Covid. See more..

  17. 4.5 Bartel's Beach (6 reviews)
    - Come visit this unique gem
    Beaches
    Bartel's Beach image
This is a great little beach less than three blocks from downtown Lake Mills. The views at this beach are awesome, particularly at sunset. The sandy area is small but it works well, particularly for young kids who want to dig in it. The swimming area is sandy too and weed free. There are picnic tables in the shady areas which have large and beautiful trees. There even is a little playground area. There is a quaint bridge that goes over the creek flowing from the lake, and it flows into a gorgeous mill pond on the west side of the park. There are bathrooms on site, and there now is even a food-service area that is open after being closed for over 20 years. By the way, the beach is open year round (except bathrooms are closed in winter) and it is a good site to walk onto the ice (but make certain it is safe to do so). Best of all is that this all is free to everyone! If you get bored at the beach, walk into town to shop, eat, or grab some ice cream! See more..
  18. 4.0 Port Washington South Beach Park (4 reviews)
    - Great spot for picnics
Wednesday: 6:00 AM - 10:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Beaches
Port Washington South Beach Park image
I visited South Beach on a daytrip to Port Washington on a weekday in October. The weather was great for a nice walk on the beach; the winds were not kicking up the water too high. I enjoyed a leisurely walk looking at the waves on Lake Michigan, the rocks and driftwood on the beach, and the bluffs. The parking lot for the beach is small, and it should be expected that it would be full on weekend day. But, one could park in the nearby Coal Dock Park and take a short walk to South Beach. It is a great spot for a picnic. See more..
  19. 3.0 Marble Park Beach (3 reviews)
    - Love it!
    Beaches
    Marble Park Beach image
Marble park beach is a man made beach but very nice. Have a couple slides, platforms, diving board, sandy beach with toys you can borrow, and a few big beach umbrellas for shade. They "groom" each day for weeds so it keeps it pretty nice and sandy. The water later in the season of course is warmer. For ages 3+ it is $4 to get in but you can also bring a cooler with drinks and food in. There is a park/playground right outside of it so can even grill if wanted. Bring a blanket or chairs to lay out on. They have music playing all the time as well. Come here with the kids multiple times a year and always enjoy it. See more..
  20. 4.5 Wakanda Park (3 reviews)
    - Great place for a picnic!
Wednesday: 7:00 AM - 10:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Beaches • Hiking Trails • Playgrounds
    Wakanda Park image
A friend and I picked lunch up from a place in town and took it to this park to eat. Just as we pulled in, it started to rain. We found a bunch of pavilions with picnic tables and ran under one to eat. It was perfect. This is a great park and has multiple fields- including a baseball field. There is a water park but because of the pandemic it was closed. The lawns were lush and green and I would recommend for anyone to stop and enjoy this place. See more..
  21. 5.0 Muskego Park (2 reviews)
    - High quality woods

    Muskego Park image
For a county park, this one features very high quality hardwood forest. So much so that it was designated State Scientific Area, to be protected and preserved (It's also designated one of the State Natural Areas). The number of spring flowers there in early May is astounding, which indicates high-quality forest. One of the scarce flowers is Reflexed Trillium See more..

  23. 4.0 Big Rapids County Park (1 review)
    - Spent Afternoon Here
Beaches • Parks • Hiking Trails
    Big Rapids County Park image
This park has good access and it back out of the way. You take some back roads to get here but there were not many people here. Picnic benches and a grill were located at a covered shelter near the playground and toilet facilities. This is in the upper area with trails along the river rapids. There is access to the water in a couple of areas. The second area is larger with access to the beach. A small creek flows into the river at this location. Found toads hopping around and birds in the trees. Good for wildlife watching also. We also saw some fish jumping out of the water. Lots of parking and it was nice and quiet while we were there. Good place for children when the water is calm. See more..
  24. 4.0 Bond Park (1 review)
    - Excellent Swimming, Lots of Parking
    Beaches • Parks • Playgrounds
    Bond Park image
Last time I visited Bond Park was more than forty years ago. Surprisingly, almost nothing has changed. The park has a small playground area and a few picnic tables, plus a paved parking lot with plenty of spaces. There is no admission fee. The main attraction here is the swimming beach on the Oconto River. A wooden boardwalk extends out into the water, and a large wooden raft in deep water beckons adept swimmers to come and play. There's also a boat ramp at one end of the park, where daily passes can be purchased for $5, and seasonal passes are $20. A small snack shop offers candy and drinks. Bring your lawn chairs and plan to spend an afternoon. See more..
  25. 3.0 Lake Redstone County Park (1 review)
    - Typical County park

    Lake Redstone County Park image
This park has a beach and playground, and is about 30 acres altogether. There is an artificial waterfall created by a dam. Also you can walk around a bit - there is not much of a trail to speak of, but ATV trail runs through the park, so you walk there when no ATVs are in sight. Park requires an entrance fee, which could be paid i the nearby town (which is a hassle, of course, unless you know the drill and come prepared). See more..
